i try to get to see them at Eastbourne AIRBOURNE free air show if the wheather holds that is,
the other goose bump moment i still cherish is Concord doing a fly by at Farnborough way back when, she was on her way home from her maiden vouyage to the Caribian,
she flew by about 5 times with her tail about 2inch's from the tarmac and nose almost pointing straight up to the clouds,
regards malcolm
WOW! Just wow...

Bournemouth, too, is free. I'm determined to get down there this year although last year the Vulcan did come over on its way from Shoreham and then again back to Brize Norton. Fantastic sight.citronut wrote:i try to get to see them at Eastbourne AIRBOURNE free air show if the wheather holds that is,

I agree about Concorde. Magnificent aircraft and such a shame that it will probably never fly again.

Catching the sun today the red arrows positively glowed like they were
iridescent and looked absolutely superb.
Here in Swansea you could always time the 6 o'clock bumps as Concorde
opened up towards the Atlantic having cleared the land mass as it set about
reeling in the States. God, what a wonderful elegant plane:

Really wish Branson had been allowed to buy and run them rather than see
them trashed so nobody could?
Some machines just have a natural elegance (intended or not).

Andrew,
Do you have a Hi-Res copy of that last picture? About time for a Desktop wallpaper change and I think that is the new one
Definite aircraft theme going on with this computer
I've had your second picture as a wallpaper previously, as well as a Handley-Page Victor and an English Electric Lightning. Not to mention the rather amusing avatar of the Dash 8 props

With all of this talk of Concorde, just thought I'd add a bit of a random fact that my granddad was on the design team to Concorde!

No files big enough to be used as a decent screensaver I'm afraid Toby:

Great looking plane Concorde but to say its noisy was an understatement, I live 9 miles from Heathrow and north west of it so way off the flightpath but every morning at 11am I used to hear Concorde rev up its engines no matter what direction it was taking off in, sad in a way to see it go but it really had no place in the modern world making all that racket. It was the only plane I could hear from where I live, heavens knows how unpleasant it must have been for those living near the flightpath.

It always makes me smile when a comment comes out like this, it reminds me of what he used to say to the 'treehuggers' (his words) when they were bilding the second runway at Manchester. He used to ask them, how and where they went on holiday, and then say "if you don't like the noise you shouldn't have bought a house near the airport".DickieG wrote:It was the only plane I could hear from where I live, heavens knows how unpleasant it must have been for those living near the flightpath.

The commentary during the Thunderbirds was cheesy beyond belief. The Red Arrows commentator couldn't help but get a few (well disguised) digs in during their stint.Xac wrote:There is a legend that may be complete waffle, of an airshow in the US where the comentator was saying the blue angels/thunderbirds (can't remember which) were the best display pilots in the world.

That's just it, I don't live 'close to Heathrow', unless you class 9 mile off the flightpath as closeTrainman wrote:He used to ask them, how and where they went on holiday, and then say "if you don't like the noise you shouldn't have bought a house near the airport".

I can remember Andrew getting similarly enthusiastic a few weeks back:

Today I was fortunate to watch the spectacle presented...
Not my pictures BTW, I was too busy watching them to faff about with a camera!
Gave me goosebumps watching such a superb display and they blew me away!
Definitely gave everyone a lift and a massive feelgood feeling so If you've
never bothered checking them out live, you really ought to see them.
