Replacing a c5 rear suspension strut

Hi All

I'm planning to replace the leaking nearside suspension strut on my c5 in the next few days, i have ordered the sphere removal tool and currently waiting for it arrIve and i have the new strut. Is there any advice any one can give me before i do this job and how hard is it to do this.

i have the axle stands and ramps also 2 trolley jacks to help me along i just need some advice i was going to take the car to the garage to have this done but ive decided to have a go myself i have worked on Citroen Xantia suspensions before before and know a bit about them but Ive never done this job and i know these are very similar although not the same

so any advice please will be very welcome

I haven't looked, but if the C5 cylinder is the same as previous models, you may have a bit of trouble removing the 'R' pin from the balljoint end. While you're waiting for the sphere tool to arrive, I'd suggest soaking the pin in Plus Gas, which should make things a bit easier. Might be worth getting a replacement pin too, just in case...

Thanks For that ive just tried to get that clip and was told its a main dealer part ill just soak it over the weekend as i wont be getting the tool till Monday or Tuesday it is the same setup as the xantia apart from the electronics side of it. Is there any more problems i might encounter but ive studied it and it looks a simple enough job but i dont know thats why im here

The only other thing I can think of is the vexed question of whether the C5s hydraulics can be fully depressurised without a Lexia.
As far as I can see, it would be a wise precaution to leave the sphere 'cracked' and dripping for a while (with suspension on low setting) before fully removing it. Unfortunately, you won't be able to re-use any lost fluid, as any dirt can cause serious problems, there being no external filters.
It's more important than ever to ensure that the car is fully supported, as it might well suddenly drop below the 'minimum' level as the system is opened.

There Is A Bleed Screw On Rear Suspension about half way along the rear axle and you can fully depressurise it there also its best to disconnect the battery to stop the pump from pumping more LDS Fluid Through and Ive brought litre of lds to top the system back up when done.

And for anyone reading this there is another suspension bleed screw for the front near the timing belt cover on drivers side of the car.

And Thanks For Saying About Safety I Take The Support Part Very Seriously I will not Work Under any car without proper Supports under it Especially it being a Citroen Too Extra Care is Needed i Worked on my Xantia rear suspension when the height corrector seized up which on turn broke the hight adjustment part on the rear anti-roll bar and the little white plastic clip was left hanging this was my first experience of working with a Citroen but i sorted it since then Ive changed the front struts on my old xantia and also replaced all four spheres but this is the first time Ive ever worked on a c5.
