I can't think of any PSA diesel that can be remotely described in those terms :?

Ashy, what have you against diesels?

Yup exactly, my comment was tongue in cheek. I dont have anything against the diesels - well, with the exception of the HDI units as fitted to 307's etc. with the stupid fap filters, and also I found the Peugeot 308 sw/estate thing I used for a coulpe of weeks which had the hdi engine was very lathargic and underpowered.

Anyway, regardless, I dont think me having the opinion that the 1.8 16v petrol is a good all rounder makes me stupid, does it?

Well for whats its worth I have had the Xantia 1.8sx, 2ltrTd, 2Ltr exclusive, v6 exclisive (at an awful 21mpg round town), and both 90 and 110 Hdi,s. And I have to say if i were to choose one to life with forever it would have to be the 110 Hdi everyday of the week.
Better economy then the Hdi90 and a noticable diff in power and will go the the moon and back before anythign falls off the engine.

But hey thats just my opinion

What would be your second pick of the bunch?

Was your 1.8 the 16v version? If so what did you think of it? A relative of mine has one that has done over 140k miles and is still pretty economical tbh! Hasnt been without its problems mind.
