Xantia Dilema - Which should i Buy?

Unread post by martyhopkirk »

Im after a Xant
Im going to eBay my ZX diesel off.
I was after a 1.9TD xant, but ive been to see a lovely 2.0 petrol dimension Xant (R plate) with only 48k and FCSH....... Im in a dilema
The Petrol Xant is cheap (£1100 with no trade in)
BUT, will it tow?
Ive not been able to try it as theres no tow bar, previously when i looked at a 1.8 everyone said go for the diesel.... does anyone have a 2.0 petro xant they use for towing? it needs to pull 1100kg effectivly up hill and down dale
Its a nice shade of red too............
decisions decisions....

If you are going to tow with your Xantia, to my mind, the diesel is the one to go for. A 1.9TD would cope easily with 1100Kgs. Expect around 42 solo and 30mpg with the trailer.

I've probably given advice on this before, and said that I'd prefer the diesel...both to use everyday and to tow.
But the petrol 2.0 will also tow very well and I doubt you get a R-reg diesel with 48K and Cit history for £1100.
So if you like it why not buy it?

I have a 1998 petrol 2.0 litre turbo estate (TurboCT engine) which I use to tow a 1200kg caravan. It tows like a dream, but the fuel costs are high (around 20 mpg!)

My brother tows OK with a 2.0 Pug 405 and that's an auto. He has also towed with a 2.0 8valve XM (auto) but it struggled on long climbs and eventually blew the gearbox (I did warn him to get an oil cooler fitted).
But a diesel would be better.
