Diy key programming.

Unread post by boristhespie »

Got the immobiliser code for me car.

Can someone explain the process of programming keys. Including parts.

I need a second key as I paranoid Iay lose the only one I have while abroad or far from home.

Note: great topic title. Darn well mucked it up.

Fixed :)

New fob with circuit board and virgin transponder, mechanical code to be able to cut key blade ,
stick all together and with your transponder code and lexia ,code key.
For what we are about to receive may we be truly thank full.

where would I get mechanical code for cutting key. I don't have code card. And where in Lexia is option.

I assume this would happen when key is in ignition????

Has anyone done this?

The code for cuting the key is on a little plastic tag on one of the original keys - probably long gone.

If the locksmith can't cut a new key from the original one then you'll have to pay a Citroen dealer £20 to get the details (you get the transponder code and locking wheel nuts as well) for you.

If it is a standard Citroen cruciform key then it is easy to measure the key kerfs and calculate the keycode.
Posted the details a few years ago on one of the XM websites.
When I find it I will stick a link in here.

Remember if its just for a spare then you can just get a plain key which is a lot cheaper than getting a new one with the remote.
With Lexia you first do a global test as normal then go into BSI > Learning > key initialisation/programing. It will ask how many keys you are programing (this means all the keys you have for the car not just the new one). Lexia will guide you through the rest.

But I thought you needed burn once transponder chips.

Are these available easily?

Incidentally is this what you need the immobiliser code for?

Either type of key (with or without remote locking) contains a transponder chip. If you're buying a new key then it should have a new transponder chip in it UNLESS you get one cut which is just the blade. The price will tell you which is which - just the basic blade only key will be about £8 - £15.

I bought a new transponder chip for my key project and it cost me £15 from LKM Security Systems but I reckon I could get it a bit cheaper next time now that I know what to buy. As I wrote elsewher about this, my wife has tidied away the key fob and I'm now at standstill in the project but I see no reason why it shouldn't work.

You don't need a separate burner for chip. When you code the key to the car in the ignition barrel the BSI writes to the chip and codes it to the car as part of the process.

Yes, you do need the 4 character code that was on the credit card.

PS - have you checked your PM yet?

AFAIK I know that, together with the RPO code from the driver's A post, should be all you need.

I'm not sure what effect putting in the wrong security code would be. Probably incorrectly burn the chip.

How sure are you that the code is correct?

An interesting place you've found there.

Perhaps there's someone here who could find your transponder code at zero cost? If they're the same then I would go ahead.

Wont do any harm if you put in the wrong code when programing a key, Lexia will just tell you the code is incorrect & wont let the procedure go any further. If you type the code wrong three times you get locked out for about 15 minutes.
Coding a new injection ECU or BSI is different, if you enter the wrong code the ECU/BSI is scrap as you are telling the new unit what it's code is & you only get one go at it. If both codes dont match they wont work. With that in mind if your fitting a new BSI/ECU it's always a good idea to carry out a key programming first to confirm the code is correct as the handbook packs could easily get mixed up when there is a pile of them sitting in a showroom office.
