Scenic auto wipers

Unread post by Stekelly »

The missus has a 2005 Grand Scenic. It was before they made changes to the wipers so each time you start the car you have to knock the wipers of then back to auto to enable the auto function. Does anyone know if this can be changed with a software upgrade so it can be left permenantly on? Or is it a hardware change for the facelift?Cheers

I didnt think any auto wipers come on without first clicking the stalk into auto.

The reason being that in snow or ice the wipers will come on when the car is started - this can often damage the wipers or the motor.

From the facelift the stalk can be left in the auto position and be always on. The mothers 10 reg Megane is the same. Between auto lights and wipers the only time the stalks get touched is for indicating :D

Our 08 version (post facelift) can be left in auto. It does often sweep the screen on start up for no apparent reason though. I'd prefer it the other way round where you have to switch it off and back on to activate it.

LOTS do! The Ford Focus is another one. Much better I reckon, then they really are automatic.

I don't think there is any way it can be configured. I too would like it done with my Mégane but I really don't think there is a way.

I think that is a bad idea for my above reason, really, im sure everyone is capable of setting the wipers to auto when they are needed

Renault are smart enough to cut power to the wipers if they sense resistance

Couldn't resist

Ah, well thats not too bad then, though does it kick back in when you have your windscreen defrosted?

If I get to the stage where im unable to flick the wiper stalk upwards a notch ill post off my licence to the DVLA

I always switch it to auto when I need them and then back to off when I park the car. I have a thing about stalks being in their park position

Yep, pretty clever, saved my wiper motors over winter - I'm very impatient.

One thing that is poorly designed, however, is the "intelligent rear wiper". Comes on when reverse is selected and the front wipers are on. Except, in the Meg, it comes on when the stalk has been left in the auto position, even if it's not raining! Annoying.

Haha that sounds like a bit of an anal habit Chris! Do you turn the fan and radio off as well?? lol.

My rear wiper only comes on if the front wipers are active, not if the stalk is left in the auto position.

I dont know what it is, a few weeks back a mate flicked the indicator on while I wasnt in the car. The first thing I did after getting in, before even turning the ky, was turn it off, almost without noticing I had done it  Just because it didnt look to be in the right place.

No, the radio and heating stays left alone. My C5s fan adjustment knob has a picture of a fan on it, that has to be level
