Will i get much for it?

Unread post by Quackers »

Finally jumped to a C5 this weekend having been an Activa driver as my everyday car since 2005  First time i have not been excited about getting a new car as i knew it ment saying goodbye to a very fun car to drive.

Its currently sitting on my drive, but as much as i am trying not to get rid of her, no way can i afford to tax her at the end of the month and insure her, as well as all the other bills.

Is there a market for Activas or will i be lucky to get scrap value?

Its a V, Jan 2000 Reg,
mauritius blue
123,000 miles
Most service history from when i had her with 59,000 miles to now
MOT until December
Tax until end of the month
Clutch changed 20,000 miles ago, has "knocking" at the back from the rear ram bush being worn.
Loads of tread left on the Continental tires, less than a year old.

Cannot bare to see her scapped, cannot let her go for free as scrap would at least give me some monies, cannot afford to keep her as a second car.

Any nice millionaires on the forums want to donate to keep an Activa running :P

Why would you need to scrap an MOT'd serviced Activa?
Sell it to someone here on the forum for the scrap value at least.
It's probably better than one of mine in my menagerie of
"fallen Activae" so I'll rescue it if you must! S2's are the rarer
variety too - does it have a sunroof!!?

I see no reason why you wouldn't get above the scrap value :?

A good road going Activa seems to go from anywhere between £300-£600 on average. More for a really good one with decent miles and history. When you think about what they are, thats the bargain of the century!

Yours has a long MOT so thats one peace of mind requirement for some, tax is only money and every car needs it.

Make a very detailed advert, with when everything was done, replaced and serviced - spheres, cambelt, condition of rams etc etc. Stick up some very good pictures and go from there. Detail is key with these, people need to know as much as possible.

A good avert in the right places with a realistic price and you will sell it.

I'll try and get a multi car insurance quote for the VSX and your Activa tonight.

The 2.1TD should be up and running and finished tonight so that can soon be sold (at a loss I fear, the amount of parts it's needed to get fixed has spiralled and gone a bit mad!).

My Activa is 99% ready for scrapping, I'm assuming you don't want the engine Andrew? It's a bit of a faff or I'd remove it myself and have it ready for whenever you could come and get it.

Yes, dammit - I'd love it - are the turbo and driveshafts going to still be
attached to it - in fact, I'm assuming the gearbox is still there yes?

I can run over to you with my engine crane in a Xant estate...

Do scrapper men ever come with equipment to lift the cars? Might be worth seeing if I can detach the engine and subframe from the chassis and get the scrapper man to lift the car over the engine? Or is that a recipe for disaster... Hmmm!

Some do. It depends on how 'Pikey' they are. I've known them drag shells onto their flatbeds

Ask 'em when you book them to come. If they can't bring a grab then go for someone else.

What you plan is what we did with the Pulsar we broke recently. We let the engine go and left it sitting on a pallet so the scrapman could just lift off the shell and leave the engine sitting.
