Is it just me?

Unread post by andmcit »

Don't read lots into this and the following observation isn't a metaphor
for my life or anything...

but does anyone else encounter hassles finding the damned lock on the
Xantia s2 ignition barrel with the silly big plipper key due to it being so
deeply recessed - certainly more noticeable than the s1 I guess due to
the addition of the transponder aerial?

ANY other Citroen from a 2CV to an XM doesn't cause me as much irritation
as trying to find the damned s2 Xantia's ignition, day or night.

Just an observation! Rubbish ergonomics, a subject close to me as I've
been trained in this field and it does have a big bearing on my Design
work.

Hmmm, do I make this another poll...

Do I need some therapy?

When was the last time you saw "money back if not delighted" in an ad!?
I knew I was setting myself up with this; it's one aspect of the Xantia s2
that constantly wears me down over time and starts to irritate me deeply!

I've just put an S1 and S2 plip together and there's hardly any significant difference in size...

Andrew. I think I kind of know where you're coming from. The S1 key surround is much more "open" where as the S2, due to the presence of the aerial wrapped around it makes it feel a bit buried and hemmed in...

Personally, I bothers me not. What REALLY annoys me on the S2 is the fact that the radio controls are all in different places on the steering wheel and far and away the biggest annoyance is the horn is never where I expect it to be  A legacy of driving S1 cars most of the time....

Yup ... you're spot on there Andrew, it's just you
Haha,

You are not the only one Andrew

Since I've had my car,3 years now, it's always bothered me too!
I find it really awkward/hidden,as you say, unergonomic. Got fed up of looking like a right div always trying to get the key in, so I always tend to physicaly move me bonce so I can see the ignition and get a direct hit with the key

phew, thought I was just being thick..guess that makes two of us

Jim,

Aye, the steering wheel stereo controls..I have never mastered those either..after ages spent touching the wrong buttons, losing stations/tracks etc, while driving,(can be quite offputting/dangerous), I gave it up as a bad job and find it far easier to just manouvre my left hand over to the entertainment unit directly

oh,while we're on about gripes, I'm sure if I flash highbeam at night, pulling the stalk back, high beam stays on...so if you don't notice, you've got oncoming traffic...flashing at you!
I know if you are gentle,it doesn't, but I much prefer fords etc, where 'flash' is any kind of pull on the stalk, and high beam is simply pushed forwards.

an don't even get me on about rust...'oh no no no,Xantias don't rust' ...

Can't comment having never driven an S2. Reminds me of one of those 'Thats a good idea, I would have never thought of that' ideas the XM has incorporated. A bulb next to the ignition barrel. Complements perfectly the mini sun visor above the rear view mirror which covers that annoying gap between the larger ones either side

That is an odd gripe Andrew

Its not something I thought about with S2 Xantias. It does seem odd that the audio controls on the wheel are different, I find the S1 and Xms (the same wheel) very easy to use. I dislike the preset button, which slowly flicks through your presets until you press it again and it selects that one, its a slow way of doing it.

The Xm does have a bulb next to the ignition barrel, very handy! My dad added one on our C15 too.

There is one Citroen which has a push away stalk for full beams ... the C1  I was out in ours last night, thinking its a great ideal to have the stalk designed like that, though of course its a Toyota stalk ...

Many good ideas are to be found on the Xantia and more so on the Xm.

I was thinking about this, then realised that whilst I don't have trouble finding the hole, I actually put my index finger down along the key which allows you to find the hole easily without need to crane your neck around. Rather suggests I had trouble when i first got it, but since I've done 70k in it since then, I guess I've just adapted to it!
