CD player

Unread post by Peter.N. »

While trying to locate the reversing light lead I found a CD player in the back of my 406 estate, it already has one in the dash which doesn't appear to work - I'm confused :?

Is it a CD changer? If its a good spec 406 it might well have both.

The autochangers used to live inside one of the covers on the rear area on the estate.

The saloons used to be fixed to the horizontal surface that would be the "parcel shelf" in a hatchback, if that makes sense.

I think the later ones had it in the glovebox.

If its single disc its the rare navigation system.

I'm afraid I dont know what an autochanger looks like, in spite of the fact I am a retired TV engineer  It only has one slot and it is housed in the o/s side pocket.

It does have satnav though, never thought of that.

Autochanger is bigger than the standard radio size. The 'slot' when open will reveal either a large rectangular hole or a cartridge which contains the cd's. I think its electronic eject.

From memory the connection plug is a round DIN type plug.

Should look like one of these:

Well since the car has satnav the extra CD player will be for running the satnav disc.
Does the satnav work?
Have you tired to see if there is a disc in the player in the boot?

Only one slot and you have sat nav then, as Andy mentions, it is the CD reader for the nav unit. With the ignition on, there should be an LED lit up on it. The changer has no LED.

Surprised it was offered as an option on the GLX though.

Thanks lads, please excuse my ignorance, I haven't run anything newer than a XM for the last 15 years. It is indeed for the satnav which doesn't recognise anything built in the last 10 years, how do I update it, another disc or can I download something - cost?

The car is surprisingly well equipped with aircon, electric seats, auxilliary heater and satnav to name but a few, if only it had the ride and space of an XM it would be perfect.

It was reasonably common at the time when they were being sold used for the P.O to not have the cd in it. I think you can get one from the dealer although how far in date it would be is debatable.

I'm not sure who made it. Do you have the remote control ?

I don't have the data for it, I think I've found the actual display unit in the dash:

61C70A TRAVEL CONTROL PROCESSOR-CONTROL CONSOLE

The actual 'parts' of it are not in the standard equipment, as it was an 'extra' as far as I know.

If its anything like the C5, up to date discs should be available, unless discs differ for different models. Im sure you should be able to get a reasonably up to date version. Tried ebay?

Its the same unit as used in the Coupé.

I'm led to believe that the latest disc that will work with the system is 2004. After that and the system won't read it.

My Coupé has the system although I hate sat navs with a passion so I've only ever used it to test it works. Considering the age of the system its not too bad.

There are several on ebay but don't know whether they are cross compatible, does anyone know if this one will do ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT-GREAT-BRI ... 20b8928995

If it is they will probably bid against me :(
