This is my daughter's car so the discription of the problem is 3rd hand.
Over the last 2 months the engine warning light has come on for a short time while driving. This has been on the odd occasion and at the same time the engine power seems to reduce slightly. A hand held diagnostic test has been done but no faults were reported.
Yesterday however on starting from cold, the engine revs went straight to 2000 rpm and stayed there. On switching off and restarting the problem was cleared.
Has anyone had a similar problem and was it repaired without an expensive trip to the main dealers?

There have been no replies to this one but some of you may be wondering what has been going on.
The problem seemed to go away after putting the ECU into learn mode, but yesterday we had a complete ignition failure.
The engine died and required the RAC to turn out (after 2 hours I might add).
The RAC man tried a diagnostic which was unsuccessful but said that it could be an ECU failure or a crankshaft sensor fault which is much more common.
I will keep you posted. In the meantime, any comments please.

Smee again. Still no joy on this one. replaced the crank sensor and the engine sprang back to life. Let the engine tick over and after 12min. it died. Started straight away and died after 12 min. again.
While the engine was running yet again, I started to waggle wires in the sensors, injectors, etc. when I touched the wiring on a sensor in the air box above the injectors, the engin died. The plug was a less than tight fit so I tightened it and taped it in place.
I thought that that was the fix but after 5 days of wonderfull smooth driving, the erratic idle speed has returned.
Help.

Thanks for your help. I will look into replacing the MAP sensor and connector. The daughter will have to be talked into spending some money however. One interesting point however. We have had 3 diognostics done whith no fault shown. They were all done with a hand held so does it only show a fault if it is actually happening at that exact time? Does a test done at the Peugeot dealers poll the memory in the ECU and give a fault history?
