Xant Electronic ignition key warning light stays on

Hi guys, I am having an issue since replacing the 'electronic' Bosch diesel pump on my '99 'Xant 1.9Td.

On first trying to start it (after the transplant) the 'electronic ignition key' warning lamp came on and stayed on, accompanied by beeping noise

.

Needless to say the car did not start either.. is this to do with the ECU not recognising the new pump or something related to that?

I know there are loads of electronics boffs on board FCF so please give this some thought. Many thanks for your time.

The code in the pump will not match what is in the key. Ideally the transponder part of the key (the matchstick head size black blob) from the donor should go into your key, that might be enough.

I'm not sure if its possible to re-code it, it should be though although you'll need a Lexia. An alternative is to de-amour the pump although you need the pump off to do this.

The key & pump are also matched to the CPH unit behind the glovebox. The codes in the Key, CPH & pump must all match to authorise starting so you would need this aswell from the donor car. I cant remember if the engine ECU is coded aswell but I dont think it is.
I've never tried to recode a second hand pump module to a different car with Lexia but I doubt it can be done as usually most security related items on modern citroens icluding the CPH are program once only.

perhaps also to force punters to buy a new car as it becomes too costly and complex to repair

. The pump was bought off the bay of E so no chance of obtaining the key or any other items needed to make it work...

I had forgotten all about mentioning the 'box o tricks' up behind the dash. The Peugeot ones usually live on the drivers side rather than behind the glovebox.

I'd just de-amour it and throw transponder ring / CPH box / coded anti start moduel in the bin.

I agree with spider dearmour pump and throw the immob stuff away.

Ed, I have simialr problem last year which is well cover in the forum.

Also I have a spare bosch pump de armoured which was working prior to being removed from my Xantia. You can have it gratis just send a PM(FYI the pump has been recon'd with new seals).

Dont want to be throwing the CPH out as it does quite a few other things apart from the imobiliser.

much obliged to Kenny for a de-armored pump! Also thanks for all the relevant threads found by going through your posts of last year, very enlightening indeed.

I seem to recall bookmarking a thread on removing a diesel pump without disturbing the timing belt ie pulley remains in place. Problem is bookmark done on a computer which is currently out of action

. Can anyone point me in the right direction please, searching proves interesting but futile!

AFAIK, you just lock the engine (crank, bolt in cam, 2 bolts in pump) undo the pump securing bolts, then jack the pump off the sprocket - the two bolts holding the timing on the pump sprocket hold it in place and maintain the timing.

It helps massively to have the special tool to pull the pump sprocket.. here's a home-made one and the dimensions...
