While watching a programme on Quest I.E. basic older Discovery repeats on Freeview channel 38.
There was a programme called The Garage which featured a team working with a boss called Jock, running a place called English Mobile Mechanics in Spain.
I have seen the previous series, and now the second series is being shown on Freeview.
There was an interesting episode this week which had a Bentley Mulsanne Turbo, and it had a suspension problem.
The car runs on Citroen spheres which come in a Bentley bag at Bentley prices, imagine how much the mark up is on that!
Yes they are green spheres, with the Citroen badge on them, imagine if the owners knew who they owe their comfort to.

Rolls Royce have been using Citroen suspension on licence for years, not any more now that BMW have taken ownership, not sure about Bentley now they are owned by VW.
"The Garage" makes interesting viewing although there are quite a few schoolboy errors made by the mechanics and whilst Jock is an "Interesting character" I wouldn't like to work for him, he's a all or nothing kind of guy.

Ive seem the garage, its not a bad program, though yes there are some errors and I dont think id take my car there!
While my dad was a Citroen specialist we did get a few Bentley and Rolls Royce cars in for replacement spheres at the rear. Its amazing how many ride badly due to the spheres being flat.

Prior to my post I came across this.addo wrote:What about the Benzes with self-levelling rears! They went their own cussed way and reinvented the sphere (and height corrector) rather than pay money to France for an existing product.

Check out the views of a member called jasons.
Who apparently used to own a BX, and sums up his thoughts with a dig on the third post on the thread linked above.
Regarding their costly way of going about things (Mercs) it appears to be a habit they have, and you would have thought they would prefer more profit!
Bentley/Rolls had the right idea, why redesign, and try to reinvent the sphere.
It's a proven system that has worked, and still does work well.
Although Citroen had the right idea with developing the Activa version, it complements the original idea, and adds an improvement to it.

I agree Jock makes for lively viewing on the programme, but it wouldn't be possible to work with him, it would be hard work, not playing with the exotic cars, but dealing with the "personality!"
There is a web site for "The Garage" with info, and other nice little earners for the place.
Arthur Daley would be jealous!

We had the chap that designed the new Mulsanne come to my university to give a talk about it.
Somewhat interesting if puzzling...
They "completely re-engineered" their classic Bentley V8 for modern times - still uses push rods and 2 valves per cylinder
I asked him why they hadn't modernised that bit (perhaps they could get it up to 100 horsies per litre and not have so much trouble with Europe RE: emissions
) : "Because it's Bentley tradition" he said. Granted 1020Nm of torque is about enough to tear a small hole in space and time, got to give them that hehe.
But I digress...he started going on about their new self leveling suspension - they've switched to air bags now for whatever reason. The way he banged on about it being innovative and luxurious was all very nice. But all the time I was thinking "Citroen have been doing that for 60 years and it doesn't cost £220,000"
