Activa Boost Controller.

Unread post by Citroening »

Evening Chaps,

All of this Activa talk has got me thinking about that boost controller that I've got sitting outside in the garage.

I've read that a couple of Activas on here have had a manual boost controller fitted to increase the boost but I can't seem to find how to fit it! (BTW, if it's on here and I'm missing the obvious then let me know! :) ).

I've got no previous experiance of the TCT engine so don't really know the layout etc of it so any tips/tricks for fitting would be greatly appreciated.

I've also got a nice dump valve sitting in the garage too that I might fit, so any tips on that would be good thanks.

The start of the Activa learning curve eh?! :D

Re the dump valve, don't fit it, instead find a 406 TCT and swipe the recurculation valve and fit that instead.
One day I'll find the one I gave Jim and sneakily fit it to his Activa

I think Gareth is the mman as he has a lot of Turbo modding experience.

On mine i have taken the ecu boost controler out (but left it plugged in) and tucked it into the ecu box, then taken the signal pipe off of the air filter to turbo pipe and capped the fitting with a bolt, then all you are left with is a boost signal pipe that goes from the boost pipe that runs between the throttle and the intercooler to the waste gate actuator, but as you have taken the original ecu controller out you just fit your manual bleed or bearing type controller inline with this pipe, you can of course extend the pipe into the cabin which makes setting the boost easier.

Then you will need a boost guage, dont tee it off the MAP line though, there are capped fittings on the right of the inlet manifold you can use for this.

Sounds like you are not wasting any time getting stuck in 8-)

This is also of interest to me, something I really need to look into how it works since the one im getting has it. Ive no experience with a TCT, so it will be a learning curve for me too. :)

...well I had a bit of time this morning so I dug the dump valve out of the garage and for the time being I think I'll pop it on before I get a 406 TCT one.
So, how does one go about fitting it - not too sure regarding layout of the TCT...a CX on the other hand!
TIA chaps. :)

take the cap off of the alloy boost pipe that runs over the engine and connect it to that fitting, then run the vac line to one of the spare fittings on the side of the inlet manifold make sure its on the engine side of the throttle though obviously.
There is another capped fitting on the black plastic inlet pipe on the back of the engine, this is the fitting to connect the other side of a re circ Dump valve to but i take it the one you have is just to atmosphere?

Brilliant! Thanks Dean! :D
Yep, it's an atmosphere one and not a re-circ.

if you have a little google there is that modded red activa about with colour coded sphere's, do you remember? there is a photo of the dump valve fitted to that car, although he went a bit mad with the connecting hose it does show one connected up.

...fitted it this afternoon BUT then took it off again!
Worked perfectly fine but it just didn't match the car AT all so it's gone back in the garage for another time/car - I'll wait for a re-circ to come up.

Here's that link to that modded Activa BTW Dean.

This but...

Dont extend the line, it will make the boost spike which is not good for pistons or the ECU, it will throw a code.

I had a Powertek generic ball and spring controller on both Activa's, worked very well although boost will be higher at night time or higher atmospheric pressure because it wont compensate for these changes like the OE ECU controlled set up.

I didnt have a boost gauge in permanent, only for setting up, you can tee into the map line if you dont have a spare take off and it wont cause a problem. Using the map sensor line to actuate a dump valve will give you problems, its not strong enough to open the valve fully and the ECU wont like it.

Mine seems to work perfectly well with one fitting, it doesnt have a re-circ on it either. Gareth offered it to me but said it made little or no difference so I passed on that.

I put a bailey dv24 dump valve on my activa and it hardly does anything unless there is high humdity i.e high atmospheric pressure

Then i foundout that the Activa already has a re-circuling bosch dump valve nearer the wastegate that needs co be blanked off before the atmospheric one will work properly.

I could be wrong but that is what i found in my research.
