Dashboard pic without instuments

Unread post by Xaccers »

Does anyone have a pic of the dash without the instrument panel?
I'm trying to work out how much space is behind it for a new gauge...

There's naff all space Xac - it's damned tight behind the instrument cluster.
I'm going to swap a cluster back over on my father's car imminently so can
take a picture or two. First things first, I need to fix an Activa manifold gasket
today. :(

The curve at the side of the recess is where the front of the panel fits.
It does look like there’s drilling room at the back.
The speedos with cable had to go through there.

Where does the stepper motor live in the 2nd photo? I've got a speedo needle which sticks occasionally and have been told the I need a new or 2nd hand stepper motor.

Inside the white cover at right.
The look depends on the vintage.
Both pictures from left hand drive cars, so at left for right hand drive.

Is the stepper motor repairable?

Does it like sitcking at 50? Might just need the 4 joints on the back reflowed onto the PCB. Been meaning to do mine since I got it....the rev counter makes an effective substitute!

No mine likes sticking when its cold and jumps about 20 mph at a time... after about 15 mins its usually accurate... trouble is most of my journeys are only 20-25 mins.. I ust wonder if a second hand one is going to show up the same problems.. seems to be fairly commom fault every 100k or so.

Had the sticking at zero fault with then low speed readings until it stopped for good.
The speed pick-up on the gearbox was cactus.
With a bit of luck, the connector may only need a clean or tightening.
