Perth is a nice easy journey from you, motorway and dual carriageway all the way :D and there is a Travelodge just past the roundabout as you are going in, we shall be going through in May.

Yes, the 2.1 is the more desirable, the 2.5 has a hydraulic clutch making it much lighter and the performance is a bit better but that is where the advantages end, its even more difficult to work on that the 2.1 due to the fact that the engine only just fits in, its also more complicated, the spares are expensive and very difficult to get, so unless tyou are only going to do a very low mileage I would give it a miss.

The only problem the 2.1s suffer is the head gasket, on my cars its usually been at about 150k, they are not easy to change but once done you can be pretty confident that you will get another 150k without any major problems. Otherwise the engines are pretty bombproof, I have had clutches last in excess of 250k and I had one crankshaft pulley fail but again that was at about 250k.

Thanks for that Pete.
Saved me another journey, cus I was actually becoming slightly tempted to go and have a look at that too.

Must have changed and upgraded the roads since I last went up to Perth on my way to Braemar back in '87, cus it was all single carriageway then, and took over 7 hours in my (new then) BX 1.7 RD.

The first time we went up to Wick it took us 23 hours, that was in '77 they started building new roads from then on and it now takes about 14 hours and is about 50 miles shorter.

If you can get a really well looked after 2.5 you might be OK but its much more risky than a 2.1.

Try to avoid 'mights' wherever and whenever possible, as they seem to have an uncanny knack of becoming 'might as wells cus he's a dope', and then swiftly biting me on the a**e!

Just written to this plant pot on fleas bay, asking for the mileage and some sort of a clue rergarding previous maintainance history.
Why bother writing an edvert if you ca't actually be bothered stating the most obvious of information?

Well, thats the Xm out of your search then, as the chance of finding a 2.1TD Estate with a manual box is rare, very very rare!

Another case of a lacking advert, the majority of ebay ads for cars seriously lack details. One reason I rarely look on there for a car to buy.

Just been widening my search for more local cars, and came a cross a nice looking Pug 406 estate Hdi110 'Executive'.

Upon closer inspection of the piccies, it became quite obvious that it's probably an LX.
Yet another case of a mis-description.

Can't get excited about Peugeots somehow anyway.

Going to have a look at Picassos' and Xsaras to see what's going on.

S'pose I could always ring the 'Lancashire bumpkin chummy' again with the old ZX estate, to see if he's still more interested in going fishing rather than selling his car.
P'raps not.

Googled a search, and there wasn't one to be found nationwide.

It's not Citroen though, and if I bought one, I wouldn't be able to come in here to talk about it to you lot....and other general nonsense.

They are just missing that 'peculiarity factor' somehow, and it's that that I like. 8-)

We don't ban Puegoet owners you know, all French cars are allowed :D

However, I agree, Citroens are much more interesting, especially ones of the hydropneumatic variety.

Yes, I know that, but I'd feel like a bit of a fraud.
I'd never be 100% happy anyway, always looking at tidy Xantias and the like...enviously.
You either love' em or loathe 'em.

I'm the same regarding Skoda too. Folk still turn their noses up, and laugh and sneer at them.
Snob thing I suppose.

I simply ask if they've ever driven one?
Can't be that bad, or the Paramedics wouldn't use them around here, or the rozzers in various parts of the country including N.Wales.

I felt very guilty buying one having run XM's for 15 years - but I still have one and a half XM's and my son drives the other one, so that helps. The ride is nothing like the XM but the fuel consumption is excellent :D
