Just wondered who would be best for insuring my Xantia? I've just received my comprehensive insurance renewal figure of £352. I've tried the usual comparison sites with nothing better thus far. Admiral came out at £540
What are you guys paying?
I'm 41 - self employed - drive less than 4K a year...
Thanks!

Last year I got a a number of quotes around the £540 mark for Xantia HDi Exclusive, comp, 48 yo, self employed 25,000 miles a year, clean licence (touch wood) no claims or accidents. RAC was by far the cheapest at £281. This year RAC wanted £450 ish, best I could do after a lot of hard work was £369. Last year Admiral was one of the £540 lot, this year they matched the £369 but by going multicar we got the wifes Xsara down by £50 and a massive £300 off daughter's fiesta. Glad I got that one nailed (it's due in April) as I'm sure following the european ruling she is going to get hit big time next year.
Churchill was a fraction under £300 if I remember correctly, it was a few months ago now and I do it on instalments, that's for my DTurbo, am 36.
Interestingly, I rang them about a month ago, and they wanted quite a bit more for a 206D or LXD (the slow DW8 engine, not the HDi) , despite cover still being tp+f+t , I think it worked out about another 100 or so for the year, given what they wanted to do to the instalments.
Second interesting note: What I pay now is not far off what I paid for my first years driving and that was with a (relatively high risk) 1.6 MK3 Escort in '91...

91 205D-Turbo, gone but still missed
02 106D, TUD5B, gone but not really missed apart from the MPG
Both ours are with Elephant, and have been for about 5 years. For the level of cover no one can get close - Picasso just re-done for about £350, I expect similar or a bit more for my Xantia HDi later this month. Multi car got in a big strop about SWMBO's 2 windscreens and fender bender and quoted something rediculous, whereas protected NCD on Elephant means it hasn't gone up much.
I use E-sure, can't remember the price, but it was the best of the lot I found last august. Amittedly this isn't on a Xantia, but they might be worth a look.
Oddly I have found that some companies will charge a higher premium if you do too few miles in a year.
2001 406 Rapier 2.0 HDi 90 Estate - Sold Scrap after being viciously attacked by a falling tree
2001 Toyota MR2 1.8 VVTi - To be sold for spares/repair - dead gearbox
2014 Seat Ibiza Eastate 1.4 FR ACT (bought in an emergency, but a nice enough low mileage car)
It is high, i paid £650 last year on my 04 C5 2.0 110 HDI VTR.
Bit newer car this year and with higher insurance group on my 56reg 138bhp HDi C5.
However when i swapped my car on the insurance it didnt rise by much, only about £40 for the following 5 months - some of that was admin costs.
A bit about me:
Im 23 - will be 24 by insurance time.
No accidents
No points
4 Years no claims (might be 5 actually, will need to check that)
Driving almost 7 years
C5 is insurance group 11 (original groupings) and worth about £5500
Car is garaged on a night
16K miles per year
Use for social and commuting
Full time student working part time
Reasonable postcode area.
Its not the worst list of details, but i can see a few which might put my premium up.

Not sure that I would be induced to go with them but my eldest (34) bought a car after a three year hiatus and the cheapest was Kwik-Fit, by a large margin.
Third daughter (youngest, 26) with a 2.3L SAAB 93 went with Sheila's Wheels and cut £400 off her renewal from Swift.
Her car is in a private, gated carpark watched by cctv, in a decent postcode and out in the sticks (she lives in a golf club). Pays about £300, which is less than I do with 99 years NCB.
It's worth tinkering about on the quote with having an extra voluntary excess and maybe adding protected no claims instead.
I switched to Axa last year. 53 years old, only driver, SDP and use in connection with business, 6/7 years ncb but one windscreen claim, up to 30,000 miles, £200 compulsory plus £250 voluntary excess, £65 excess for windscreen claim, protected ncd, legal fees cover, no breakdown, £328. Quidco £28 cashback.
Requoting it the same now would be £323, including about £8-10 each for the windscreen claim history and the business use, and the protected ncd and legal fees are about £25 each. I might delete the protected ncd next time.
For 6000 miles a year, it would start at about £230, including legal fee cover, with same excesses as above.
