Bristol

Unread post by myglaren »

According to the BBC, Bristol Motors are in receivership as of today.

Very sad to see the possible end of a great marque.

Its a shame but not a surprise in the least.

They seemed to have offered the same cars for years and years and the prices are out of this world.

I can't actually remember seeing one on the road, maybe one or two at the classic car show in the NEC - they could well have been new ones ... how would you tell!

They are rather special though, has to be worth something!

If it weren't for the financial aspect I'd love one as 99% of the population have no idea what they are.

They are special, its just a bit of a shame they didnt really move on too much in more recent years.

I believe this was one of the cars which was recently in production:

Another bit of our glorious motoring excellence being consigned to the scrapheap... Terrible

Bristols are great (and so are the cars...) but they're too good. A lifetime investment. Once you have one, you never need another...

Back along (way back) they had a thing going with BMW and shared engines, expertise and even some styling cues. Look at the front-end of the 401 for example... They were pioneers of big diesel cars too..

they also upset Peugeot with their naming. they had a 401, 403, 404 and 405.

Peugeot have copyright on the use of a zero (or zeros) in the middle of their car names...

They and bristol mus have kissed and made up as neither company changed their naming conventions as a result. I guess they saw that there was no way a Bristol 405 could be mistaken for a Peugeot 405!

Sad to hear that. :(

Roger Bradford was a very big fan of Bristols and always normally had one around him - infact, Matt has still got Roger's last Bristol, a 411 IIRC...the Chrysler engined one with a beautiful noise! 8-)

My father always wanted one (along with a Morgan), although he wouldn't pay for it and I couldn't afford to buy him one.

I do hope the company can be morphed into something that remains in the UK employing local talent, rather than going to Mittal Steel or Geely (etc).

Can't say I share you guys opinions. Like Morgan, I just can't see any appeal for Bristol but then I also don't like Aston Martin's !!!
All of these marks are ludicrously overpriced for what they offer.
I hear Morgan are even reintroducing a 3 wheeler !! Utterly ridiculous !
