to mod or not to mod

Hi all been looking for some time now,on how to mod my activa. not alot on the internet

.
Had a green induction on my tdi,but they don't list one for the activa.
Have fitted a baileys dv24 dump valve which doesn't do much as i have not found the recirculting one on the turbo.

Have heard of people turning booet up to 1bar of boost but as the activa has 126000 on the clock with no service history thought it maybe a good idea to
1.change timing belt water pump etc.
2.replace headgasket set.
Already replaced rad as it had a small leak never boiled but all the same thought about point 2 as aprecaution.before i turn up boost.

Any thoughts much appreciated holmedog(mark)

From what ive seen it not just turning the boost up that gives the gains its getting rid of the standard boost controller thats on there and replace it with a good manual boost controller and boost guage of course, to keep an eye on things. Making sure the wastegate is closing properly will help too.

Best bet is give it a damn good service, get the above kit and take the boost to about 11/12psi and thats it.
Mileage doesnt matter, if you race the arse of a totaly stock car you will kill it, if your tuning it to 300bhp and drive around on 20%throttle it will outlast any stock car, tuning doesnt kill em, driving like a loon and ignoring servicing does.
