before you shell out for new heater plugs.... my xantia was getting grumpy to start in the mornings and then even when hot, was about to change the heater plugs when I noticed the temp gauge at 120* but only with heater fan or headlights on, other wise normal temp,85*-90*. temp sensor tested ok on resistance so checked earth strap from battery to engine. Didn't look bad but after cleaning temp gauge now ok and starting now good too.
I hope this helps some one, it took me ages to suss and thankfully I hadn't fried the head, the gauge was lying!
