Operate the stalk and listen for the pump. May be clogged pipes and/or jets.

Yes and yes.

Hi guys
Just a little update, thanks to woodywoodpecker :notworthy: as he was spot on, had a look at the fuse today and it had blown (wondering why?) put a new one in and its working fine now

One quick question where's the little thingy for taking the fuses out??

couldn't find it under the bonnet.

My book says it's F4, a 10 amp fuse.
There is one for the headlight washers and one for the windscreen washers.

Incidentally, I have no idea whether my car has headlamp washers or not. How would I find out. The two plastic panels under the lights certainly don't open when the stalk is operated.

In my (limited) experience, if a vehicle has headlight washers they will get washed only if the headlights are on, and usually with some sort of counter (as the headlight wash can use a lot of fluid). The Skoda I had as a company car would do it on the first time, and then every fifth time I used the screen wash per drive with the lights on. The reason it used a lot of screenwash was that the pump generated enough pressure to extend the washer stalks (and then clean the lights).

The simple way to check if your car had them would be to switch on the headlights, do a wash, and then look at the headlights.

Fuses can fail due to age. They are (deliberately) the weakest link (Look out, here's Ann R.!), and as they age through use they get weaker, until finally they just fail. You only have a problem if the replacement fuse blows in short order (assuming you fitted the right one, of course).

The thing you say about the fuse? Just replaced mine and it keeps blowing them every time I try to operate the washers? The washers still work on the window when the fuse is blown though? They just blow the head lamp one. Clueless as to what it could be
Any idea as to what is going on would be greatly appreciated.

If you stand beside the car and operate the windscreen washers, you'll soon know if the headlamp washers are working - you'll get a refreshing shower :-D

One of mine wasn't opening because someone had replaced the cover with a blanking plate. I cut off the clip in lugs, and it's fine now!
