No throttle on a Megane 1.9DCi

Unread post by Paul-H »

Hi Guys

Looks like I got real confused over this fault so I am starting again in the hope that the correct information will enable someone to help me with this problem.

The Problem

Car starts fine but sometimes there is no response from the throttle pedal and the EML will be on and sometimes all will be fine, it has also happened when driving and I am left pushing it to the side of the road.

I now know it’s not the Accelerator Pedal Potentiometer as I have changed that and the fault is still there, its probably a broken wire or dodgy connection but I need a circuit diagram to chase the wires and there is not one in my Haynes Manual.

Could anyone please help me in diagnosing this fault. Its not worth taking the car the Renault as it’s a 1998 1.9 DCi and they would probably charge me more than the car is worth to fix it.

Thanks for any help with this

Does the brake switch work ok? im sure these engines kill any throttle control if the brakes are applied so if the brake switch is shorting out it will cut the throttle.

If you have an eml up though really you need to have the ecu read, the answer will be there.

Thanks for the reply I will give that a go the next time it goes wrong,

The EML is not staying lit, as soon as I cycle the ignition it goes until I press the accelerator peddle when it comes back on but obviously only when the fault is present, so I doubt its storing any code. But I will check to see, just in case

Are you sure it's a DCi and not the 1.9D? I don't think a '98 is a DCi......If a 1.9D, they do sometimes have problems with the crank position sensor. This is located on top of the gearbox above the flywheel. I once sorted a car that started intermittently and often ran rough and cut out. Removing the crank position sensor and cleaning it sort the problem. They often get gummed up with dust off the clutch, remove and clean the contacts with some WD40.

Ah yes the DTI, £20 says it's the crank sensor
