Hi Renualt owners
I have been asked how much to do a Cam belt and water pump swap on an 02 1400cc 16v Scenic Petrol.
Anyone here done a 1.4 16v belt job? Easy? Hard? Any pointers.
Do these engines have cleaver timing Pins to lock the cams and crank?
Cheers
Paul

Amazing! Considering how common this engine is... renault owners must be able to afford to pay garages moe then we Citroen Owners

thats because they are hard to change you need cam locking tools crank locking pin, not to mention the floating crankshaft pully that will move even when you have locked the engine up! i'v seen many bent valves on cambelt changes, sorry this reply is late but not been on here for a wile.citroenxm wrote:So NO ONE has changes a Ren 1.4 16v Cam belt then!!

I've had a quick look at this belt, wouldn't say it's particularly hard it just needs a methodical ordered approach to tackling it, ideally you need special locking tools for the camshafts but I've done Audi V's by marking pulley positions with Tipex 'up to you,' seems like the crankshaft pulley could be a bastard to come off, I'd probably loosen it first with the air-wrench as I don't like the idea of jamming a screwdriver in. Another problem area would be the initial belt tensioning, feeding the belt anti-clockwise is obviously the way to go, the belt tensioner has three marks so looks easy, just make sure all bolts are tightened to spec, CP is 20Nm and a further 120-150 degrees after you've turned the engine over a couple of turns .... SLOWLY. This is probably key to success or epic fail, check and check again before cranking her over, and I'd recommend a new bolt as maximum length is 49mm, it wold be your worst nightmare come true if this snaps in the crank.
