Megane Imobiliser Help needed

Unread post by Paul-H »

Hi Guys

Just joined the forum and looking for a bit of help or advice with an Imobiliser problem on my 97 1.9 Megane.

What is happening is when I go to start the car I turn on the ignition and wait for the coil light to go out before starting the engine. The trouble is that as soon as the coil light goes out the imobiliser light comes on and the engine wont start.

What I have to do is turn the ignition on and wait for the coil light to go out, then turn the ignition off then back on again and start the engine without waiting for the coil light to go out, the engine then starts fine.

So anyone got any idea as to what has gone wrong or even where to start with diagnosing the problem.

Thanks for any help

Hi Guys

Can anyone help me with this problem.

I also wrote what was happening slightly wrong

What happens is, the ignition is turned on and I wait for coil light to go out as soon as the coil light goes out the EML light comes on and the car wont start.

If I turn the ignition on wait for the coil light to go out and EML light to come on, then turn ignition off and on again and start it without waiting for the coil light to go out it starts fine.

Can anyone help with this.

Thanks

Is it the same if you try another key?

Thanks for the reply

This going to sound realy odd but I just went out and tried the other key and it started fine, so you would think great its the key, but then just to double check I tried the old key and again it started fine with no sign of the original problem.

I will have to give it a couple of days to see how it goes.

i had this problem on a laguna years back, it turned out it was the immobilizer, the immobilizer was part of the central locking unit and i gave it into a lad who did ecu repairs and he replaced an ic on the board and it was perfect after that, the problem started intermittently but it ended up sitting in a relatives garden for three months unable to start.
