Northern Ireland members?

Unread post by stevenc75 »

Is anyone else here from Northern Ireland? If so do you have any French car meetings?

Hi Stephen,

The Citroen Car Club have an annual weekend rally, usually the last weekend in June. It alternates each year between ROI and NI.

Also there is an active 2CV club, tne NITS (NI Tin Snails). I don't havea 2CV or any intentions of ever owing one, but they're happy enough for me to tag along in a CX or Xm.

Where are you based and what have you got?

Thanks for replying. :) I live in Belfast and drive a 106 so I doubt the Citroen boys would be interested. :? I used to drive an old Fiat and there is a good Italian Car Club locally, I was hoping for similar for the French cars.

You could always get yourself a nice Xantia or Xm Steven.

I don't know if there is French car style meeting over here.

I actually looked at Xantias but they all seem to have huge mileage and that puts me off. I think I even posted here to ask about them when I was looking.

Firstly, :welc:

Secondly, Milage isn't really an issue, the biggest problem is the lack of servicing. look after it and it will look after you.........

Thirdly, High milage, my dad has a 51 plate that's just clocked 360,000 and still going strong

Erm, not all of them, but you have to be quick   Very quick 8-)

I bought that on Saturday past, loads of driving left in it.

Admitedly it is hard to get a good Xantia over here now. All the young kids have destroyed their D Turbo 306s and are now turning to Xantia and 406 TDs.

I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage, our last Xantia TD had 200K miles on it before I pulled the front off it with the tractor trying to jump start it

Very nice Robert, just keep the tractor away, eh? Any chance you could give me a shout if you're going to sell it?

I'm not a boy racer by the way. I'm 36, with 3 kids!

I most certainly will.

I don't know how long I'll keep it for, but it has a month of commuting to Belfast to do in February (60 mile round trip) then after that we'll see how much driving I'm doing and if I need to keep her longer.

Steven try and hunt for one across the water and maybe make a mini holiday of it to pick it and drive back as stranger crossings can be cheap as can Liverpool and foretells if you come back in the dead of night midweek :-)

My uncle does it every now and again for vans as he used to race bikes but has turned to cars and lives out saintfield way I think.

It'e be even better value if you bought a towing dolly and brought another car back with you to recoup some Of the outlay.

It costs typically £300 to bring a car back here from GB.

Its worth it for the right car, but thats a large chunk of what many Xantias are sold for...

In fact it's more than some are sold for! £300 isn't too bad mind.
