Just when I thought you couldn't go more bonkers. So is this the estate,
I'm still lost - things I miss not going to rallies or reading the Citroenian?

:o  Holy s**t, how expensive are those tyres

I really love the turbo alloys, but not that much to invest in that amount of rubber

How do insurance companies react to having to modify the car by fitting non citroen original alloys & non standard tyres? Or does citroen recommend a specific modern tyre size that is suitable & therefore isn't considered a modification?

Or are there any modern citroen alloys that will fit instead?

I like the Alfa 16"s as they're as dimensionally virtually identical as you can get
and were new from a Car manufacurer so OEM quality not aftermarket bling
from Halfords. make the change and discover quality brand easily found
tyres at tractions of the price of the (admittedly smart looking) TRX's.

Yes, I love the silly, solid with icescrapers cut out, pukka alloys but as I've said,
cannot and will not justify the small mileage Cx's allow me to get out of them.
Cx's are just too heavy on front tyres even when every bush and joint is as
prefect and new and set up alignmentwise as possible.

I had a set of mint ones with almost new TRX's and some scumbags stole
the lot from my barn for scrap - probably got £20 for the alloy scrap value.
Had about 4 sets of Alfa alloys with new/nearly new tyres taken at the same
time and the lot were mint. Whilst I don't want to go there ever again, the
Alfa rims are my way forward now.

Citroen C8 shares the same 5x 98 PCD fitment but they're not that
widespread or pretty either.

loads can fit now with the advent of wobbly bolts too :) you can look at
5 x 100 pcd as well as the Oe 5 x 98

7 to 71/2 inch wide rims are about the max without modifying the inner rear arches mines on 8's and are close to the limit. Insurance has been fine. stick to same speed rating tyres. guess they don't accept I don't do 130 plus so why should I have that rating tyre :)

...unfortunately the Turbo wheels are metric (210/55/390) so no 'modern' tyres will fit - this is part of the problem.
If you really wanted to keep the T Slot alloys, then you can go down the route of buying "remoulds", but they're not to everyone's tastes but do cost less than the "real-deal".
You can keep a look out on eBay for 2nd hand TRXs - you don't have to stick to the 210...you can fit from 190 to 220.

I'll never touch re-moulds tbh, but thanks for the info guy's.

Whats the best compromise for ride & grip in non metric sized tyres? 210/55/16's & does anyone have any recommendations on the brand of tyres (try not to mention michelin as they are pricey & i don't like them, especially in the wet, they do wear well though).

I've never seen decent TRX remoulds - even if they look the same pattern etc
they've been rubbish. For reference with 16" working out as 406.4mm:

The exact same standard tyres that were fitted as standard on the Alfa
147/156 models. I've bought and run Bridgestone, Uniroyals, Pirellis and
Vredestein and they're all good - decent name quality tyres.

Then of course you've got the buy the correct wheel bolts!
1.25 pitch M12 60º taper shoulder (on the Alfa rim)
and 30mm thread length and 19mm head if you can find
any but they're usually 17". I get the nice anodised jobbies
and they're about £20 a aet of 20 but locking nuts by McGard
are the way to go.

Chuck these on with 215 45 17's and the difference to the genuine
TRX 210 55 15 is 0.69%

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GENUINE-RARE-ALFA ... 0568247721

You could try them, see if you like them and still sell them for the same
money all day long on ebay.

IMHO, by far the prettiest Alfa alloys there were, are these 5 hole
'Selespeed' ones. I think the 'petal' indentation shape and the circular
cut through hole is reminicent of the Cx sharp edges but full and flowing
bodywork and it the Cx door handle recesses. Looks like it belongs to the
same design idea for me. Not everyone agress but Hell, it's my car!

Pictured is a s2 T1 sitting on 17"s and just had the alloys fitted so
jacked up and too high at the front - not yet at the correct running height:
