So I guess it'll look like my Turbo2:

Currently all legal and available but rested to prevent grit being thrown
up on the underside/arches. Mind it's so wet now there's probably more
chance of some idiot sliding into me...

Nah, I'll need to use the more sacrificial Xantiae to prevent any travesties.

It's probably totally fuxxed by now anyway, i presume it can pass the emissions test as the testers wont know that its fitted & therefore the readings will be the same as the non cat models. I wonder if its worth removing it, to allow the engine to breathe a little better?

Yes, I should say so. A car with a cat removed should feel far livelier and
benefit additional [modest - but every bit helps] horsepower. The Cx system
is a bizarre set up with two boxes aft of the manifold downpipe with twin
parallel pipes - very easily fatigued and stressed, rare and expensive.
What does the current set up on the car look like?

...you could get a new full stainless system made up for it once it's up and running and MOTd.

Sorry if you were bidding as I bought quite a few.

A pre '93 car doesn't need a cat although I believe the Swiss are very
severe on emissions even going back to when Adam was a lad. Yep, a
bespoke stainless system could be good but there are severe loadings
on the system even with decent engine mountings. Most of mine have
sheared at the heavy box joint to the feed pipes before rotting and it's
tiresome welding them up again and reinforcing them with bridging
straps between the feed pipes. I'd liken the silenser boxes to being
a breeze block stitched together with lengths of copper plumbing pipe...

a decat could be good for you in many ways but to replace it with what?
That'd be an interesting question. A DTR2 exhaust is a single large
diameter which I've wondered about in the past.

)? & was there any reason why you had both boxes made up as well, rather than just a straight through exhaust?

Good reason really, it wasn't just thrown on the car

I didn't want it too loud. It is 3 inch straight through. the exit is where it should too.

The subtle thing at the front is a screamer pipe

Did you fabricate it yourself? Is the one on cgat a particular one because of your engine mods, or could it fit on any gti turbo 2?

Here's the exhaust that I've got - the "Maikonics" one:

...it's 3 inch all the way with single box at back and no boxes in middle and sounds beautiful when the Turbo comes in!

Is the maikonics system just an uprated ecu or are there some mechanical upgrades also?
