Vel Satis Servicing

Unread post by raggerminder »

What are the key and expensive issues with regard to servicing and maintenance of a diesel Vel Satis?

Any help would be appreciated.

No idea about servicing. I hired one in France 2 years ago and fell in love with it.

Hi,

Is your Vel Satis the 2.2 dCi or the 3.0 dV6?

We have the 3.0 dV6, it's an Isuzu unit and has proved much more reliable than the 2.2 dCi.

The great thing about the 3.0 is that the cambelt doesn't need changed until 125,000 miles, whereas the 2.2 dCi is half this.

Apart from that, just regular servicing is fine. Oil changes need done more often than Renault say to keep the engine perfect, our Vel Satis is using nearly all it's oil in 18,000 miles.

Full service just cost £169 from an independent garage
French is best.

I believe on the 3.0 dci unit there are a lot of common service parts across the Izuzu/saab/renault unit (in effect the same lump). Certainly worth shopping around for service items.....

Also means there should be a good service/support web out there.....

PS Renault are offering special service prices on cars over 4 years old to entice older cars back in. Worth an enquiry - you never know! I had my 3.5 V6 Vel Satis serviced at renault after a call....saved £200.

Whenever I take my 3 litre diesel Vel Satis for a service, which is usually to a Renault dealer or an independent Renault specialist, they offer me a standard service or a "proper Renault service" - which is the option I always go for, in order to look after my car as much as possible. Usually costs about £250 to £300. I'm a bit suspect about it in retrospect, as I'm sure I'd get better performance and smoother running with a better filter from the likes of K&N, rather than the one the "proper Renault service dictates.

Depending on your mileage (?), tyres can be eaten up by a Vel Satis in about 15,000-18,000 miles and they can be expensive depending on the brand you choose, from budget tyres up to the recommended Michelin ones. And brakes aren't exactly cheap, if you need these replacing at any time.

But as the others say, many parts are shared with Saab, Volvo, Isuzu, Vauxhall, Nissan and other cars, so you may be able to get parts and servicing cheaper than from Renault.
