Unread post by DublinChris »

:?: Did a search but could not turn up anything. Can anyone advise procedure for changing bulbs on 98 xantia dash? Behind the perspex screen?
Thanks

:D Many thanks to Xantia_v6 for the reply under other post that throws a lot of" light" on subject and mine is a series 2. Also to Malcom on other thread for bulb detail.

Apologies also for the two posts on same topic did not realise it was the wrong thing - wont happen again :!:

There were not many replies on this subject. Especially MK2 version is missing a "How to guide" with pics :(
I didn't have to replace the dashboard bulbs but considering that mine is also a '98 MK2, it might be a near future job
Could you make one on the subject

Searched with words "Xantia dashboard" in ebay and found this item:
"509T dashboard bulb speedo interior 12V (£1.35)"

I have replaced both bulbs behind the air condition slider controls.
They seem to be same type of bulb as seen in above pic from ebay.
From my experience I can say that you can remove these bulbs from the caps.
If you buy only the 1.2W bulb, it costs much cheaper.

(Edit: R286 capless bulb.
Thanks for the tip. CitroJim wrote: S1 and S2 Xantias both use the same bulbs in the dash.)

Not a problem Chris. We do try and avoid multiple threads on the same subject as each thread can receive replies which can be confusing. Much more effective to have all replies contained in a single thread.

S1 and S2 Xantias both use the same bulbs in the dash. The 509Ts as shown by VertVega are the right ones but you can do it cheaper by purchasing a job lot of R286 capless bulbs like these and pulling the old bulbs out of their holders and replacing just the bulbs.

509T are effectively a cap with an R286 inserted into it...

Touch wood Malcolm, so far I've only seen those on the heater panel illumination bulbs...

Welded legs do rather spoil what was otherwise a good idea....
