Would this Picasso be value for money?

Hi,

Want to get a cheap family car as we have a 4-month old new member of the family. Just something for the near future is mainly my thinking.

Locally there's a Xsara Picasso, it's year 2000 and petrol 1.8. Cosmetically perfect, with 1 month tax and 9 months MOT. Had cambelt done 2 years ago so may not be long till new one needed. Downside is it's done 138,000 miles. Been serviced regularly as was used as a taxi. Haven't gone as far as inspecting under bonnet, test-driving, etc., as unsure if it's worthwhile or not. Seller wants £1100 but could probably get for £1000.

What do you think?

Autotrader shows similar cars for a little less, given its miles. Its not a bargain but if its close, good condition mechanically and its what you want, then it might be worth it.

...was the lovely "Misty Lilac" - we had a C5 V6 in it and it did look very nice!

Our 52reg C5 HDi is Misty Lilac too. At the moment we have every shade of grey in the C5, Misty Lilac, Hurricane Grey, Icelandic Grey and Arctic Steel.

My (late) father had a misty lilac mk1 picasso, seeing those pics soooo makes me want one! oddly i'm not sure what engine his was but as i know these cars so well i reckon I'd trade my xantia for a 2.0 hdi without much hesitation!

There are a good few with less miles and cheaper on Autotrader. Might be worth looking around? Get a HDI.

Here's all of the 2000 Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.8 on eBay at the moment, so you can compare with those.

HDi would be the way I would go if possible, easier to sell on too.
