They've got to be Joking?

Unread post by steelcityuk »

Due to recent events I needed something to laugh about, this happened yesterday when I got the renewal through for the XM SED - currently off the road with the engine in the garage, shed, coal hole, etc. I've been driving 22 years so shouldn't be considered young and daft, no points, no accidents against me. Anyhow it's insured through a broker on a second car classic policy with limited mileage, this normally means the insurance isn't too expensive despite not have any no claims bonus for the second car. So when I read the letter stating that the best deal they could find for the XM would cost £1021.48 I started to laugh.

Still it helped light the woodburner so it's not all bad...

Steve.

There was something on watchdog a few weeks back about this, huge hikes in premiums even for people who have driven for years with no accidents etc.

I hope you have sourced a lower price policy for your renewal?

Insurance is going up it seems, for some considerably.

It's worrying.

I have a horrible feeling about mine come renewal at the end of March.

The Activa may have to go after all....

With things as they are now though, I'm losing interest in the Coupé too.

I spoke to my insurance company only yesterday & the lad (who've i dealt with for a good few years) also said premiums have taken a serious hike of late, I'm yet to get my quote for my chevy but to be honest i'm kinda not looking forward to seeing it, don't get me wrong it'll not make me sell it but it'll take a while to get it back on the road if it's exorbitant, with all this in mind i'm not looking forward to renewing the Xantia's insurance but at least thats not due till late March ( i thought it was due 1st of Feb').

As a matter of interest i use 'Glynwood' insurance services, I've never actually 'needed' their services other than to insure my car but they've always beat everyone else hands down on premiums although my upcoming quotes may make me look elsewhere, time will tell.
Music keeps me going.

I was filling in one of the many online car insurance comparitors before
collecting the v6 Xantia from hattershaun and was depressed by the automatic
valuation a couple of the firms automatically entered as tghe vehicle's value,
barely passing the csrapvalue rate which just undelined my feelings about
thes crooks masquerading and pukka businessfolk.

I wouldn't let a duff renewal insurance offering jade your car
decision/ownership. many of these 'experts' automatically offer a derisory
renewal so there's no poiint being loyal to them - if there's one area of
business where you're not treated properly for your loyalty...

salt rubbed in the wounds when the very same insurer offers the lowest
quote in the comparison sites possibly even lower than last year's.

What car would the alternative be though, seriously?

Familiarity may breed contempt but sometimes an interesting wake up call
is needed by driving an alternative inferior option. Suddently your old
faithful begins to make sense all over again. Another alternativwe to to
rota through several decent ones!

I know I'm a bit fickle with my cars and chop and change them around and
never have the same cars on the road at the end of the year that I start with
so maybe this is what keeps my interest in them all.

insurance is begging to be a bit stupid now tbh, i wanted to insure the Activa for a week so i could get its VIC check done and have it mot'd then i could bring it home again knowing its all ready to hit the road in march.
Gave my company a call, "no you cant insure two cars on a single car policy", so i thought i would try a short tem insurance company and for a day the best policy i could get was £25 which is fine but i need a week really since i have to have the van with me at all times for work so i cant just drive the Activa into the garage in the morning so it takes carefull chess like car moves over several days with co workers so i tried a week and it was Around £200!!!!!!!! its around £25 a day literaly!!!

My renewal for the XM has gone up 30%, never had an accident, points or convictions, i am clean with 10 years no claims and its £450 fully comp for probably one of the slowest, least stolen, unwanted cars in the known world, if Robert hadnt done it i would say no XM had ever been crashed, (sorry Robert  ) they just dont attract that sort of driver.

The activa is £500 but it hink its tiome to go third party, whats the point in fully comp when im only going to get £3.50 for it if i get hit. Oh its now £700 to insure both on a multi car though.
Im not sure what to do, i will only do about 3k a year with a car, maybe 5K in the Activa tops.
My dad on the other hand is fully comp on his Triumph stag with euro breakdown cover, unlimited mileage, agreed valuation and im on there with him for £190 a year :? how does that work?

Im not looking forward to my renewal in May if this is what im going to be up against. I paid £650 for this year, which I thought was actually very reasonable, im sure that will increase dramatically at my renewal. Ive changed cars but when i was getting quotes this one is only £70 a year more than the last, so that shouldn't effect it greatly.

They don't make it easier for people to get the right insurance do they, and people wonder why so many drivers are caught with no insurance, its so expensive!

one of my school friends never drove with anything including a license, they used to catch him, take the car, slap his hands with a £150 costs and after a month he would have another £50 car and be on the road again, he didnt care because it was cheaper by some margin to get cought maybe once every year or two, dont know if he ever got a license or not as i dont see him these days but i begun to wonder which of us was the idiot.....................

I just never seem to get anywhere with getting the jobs done. Mainly due to finances as I'm on such a poor wage. I can get the stuff done, but then I find I have no money for myself. It's also about finding the motivation to actually do the job, something I have very little of these days. The insurance issue is the other one.

That's just it, I don't have a plan for another car. I always said I'd drive big petrol V's and nothing would stop me, and they'd never price me out of driving. Sad fact is, in reality, there isn't a lot I can do about it. Additionally, if I'm not driving a V, to me, there is no point in driving at all.

I've just had a quick shop around and my insurance will go down ever so slightly.

It has also transpired that I can insure the Activa alongside the Coupé on a multicar policy for £100 extra than I'm paying now.

Spurred me on a little bit. When renewal comes closer (and the annual bonus) I shall look more closely and also phone some smaller companies and brokers.

Only issue is the added costs of the Activa needing to be taxed and MOTed along with an exhaust (probably stainless) and 4 new tyres (which seem to scarce in 205/60/15 W rated fitment in road tyres, let alone some stickier ones)

Maybe because he's been detained at Her Majesty's pleasure?

He's the idiot. His luck will run out and he only needs to cause an injury and being uninsured, he'll have to foot the whole bill and that'll ruin him for life.

Running without insurance is about the worst motoring offence that can be committed.

I'd suggest a drunk hit-run is worse! An uninsured offender might be bankrupted; even that eventually wears off.
