xantia V6 immobiliser trouble :(
Hey all,
The green goblin seems to have developed an immobiliser fault! Any of the 3 keys I have dont 'authenticate' with the immobiliser.
When turning the ignition on The immobiliser warning light stays on and the car emits a high pitch beep. It still turns over of course but is not allowed to start.
Where should I start looking?

been here with exactly the same scenario with my first green v6 with modest
miles. It seems it got very wet and flattened it's battery in our typical August
holiday period x2 years ago and it hasn't fired since despite various attempts
with alternate ecu and lexia diagnosis. It's been at a specialist since late
summer last year now and no positive news to report.
I'm not sure if it being virtually washed away in the solid hideous downpour
for x2 weeks directly affected anything but it cincidentally stopped working
since then. A good recent battery was completely flat suggesting a short
in a feed with the car parked - it was temporarily laid up as an LHM leak
was being investoigated [feed return off the centre hydractive sphere onto
the metal feed rail below the air filter housing].
I've only recently had potentially critical new advice from Shaun and Robert
on the forum here which suggests the little fuse box under the bonnet.
After checking the feed on one of the fuses and moving the fuse box the car
started > then putting it back together it wouldn't start again. It was
changed for a secondhand one (same on all Xantiae) and it's been fine since.
Another possibility is no feed across the main radiator crossmember loom
and /or no power to the BCU that lives behind teh passenger airbag so
no dice with any of the immobiliser being opened electrically. I'd certainly
suspect this first as x3 keys don't lose their transponder and the aerial pick
up around the ignition lock won't just pack in.
Hope this works for you. Fingers crossed - I couldn't bear beaing v6less and
succumbed to another purchase.

Seems it's an Exclusive immobiliser failure that's becoming more common:

What makes you think that ? they most certainly can (and do) just pack in. It's especially common on saxo's.andmcit wrote: the aerial pick

It just got wierd!!
I disconnected the battery, took out the engine fuses cleaned the terminals, checked the engine Ecu connection for corrosion, there was none.
Now the keys authenticate fine
But the car still will not start, it's now registering a gearbox fault when cranking! Sport and snow lights flash on the gearbox indicator on the dash.
Arghhhhhhhh
Any ideas?

Further update, electric issues all over the place.
The car will now start most times, but cut out after 10~20 seconds, but the usually restart.
Sometimes fails to start because of gearbox fault.
I've taken the battery out, cleaned all the little earth terminals next to the battery, cleaned the battery terminals.
Im thinking there's is a bad earth somewhere.
Ideas anyone ?

When I had some similar strange problems with autobox lights and intermittent starting I took out all of the small fuses in the engine compartment fuse box and replaced them and had no trouble since. Some of the spade terminals looked a bit oxidised so rather than waste time cleaning them up I just replaced the lot.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

I swapped a know good'un anyway x3 times even using the paired one offwheeler wrote:What makes you think that ? they most certainly can (and do) just pack in. It's especially common on saxo's.andmcit wrote: the aerial pick

the second set of ECU's. I'm totally sick to death of this now and if it happens
to another s2 car it'll just get scrapped immediately, however nice the car may
be. Bad design weakness as as I'm concerned. Nobody wants to steal a
Xantia to drive it - to weigh it in for scrap money yes, yet I'm locked out
of my own damned car with no chance of it working.
Best of luck with yours.

Thanks Andrew, I'm going to try again see if it's magically working now. This is such a bad time for the car to fail.

I spent a long while checking and changing the large and regular fuses
but must admit I didn't exchange the whole fuse box cassette. As the car
hadn't been driven and seemed to fail static I did suspect water ingress
through the scuttle and above the body computer.
I'd love to see how this works out for obvious reasons. BTW, is there ever
a good time for a car to fail? I know what you mean though, now isn't the
time for silly beggars...

Your right there is no good time for a car to fail. I Was lucky it was at my house and not somewhere remote.
Ok update the car is now consistently starting, but it will only run for a maximum of 10~15 seconds, before cutting out. No warning or error lights. It will restart just fine but cut out again????

Dis, sorry to hear this..
Engine running for 15 -20 seconds only suggest fuel pump (1211) is stopping...
Check F9 and the injection relay 1304... Check for voltage at the pump.
Here's the diagrams you need:
Injection Circuit
Injection harnesses
Injection locations
Hope that helps...
