A Xantia is in my life again......

Unread post by FuzzyEdges »

Afternoon,
After 'downsizing' and starting my own business I find I have a Xantia 2000 HDi SX sitting on my drive as cheap reliable transport, I hope!
The last Xantia I owned was a 1994 1.9TD VSX during 2000 to 2003. I manged to complete 178,000 miles in that car before selling it.

I've been reading and searching the forums but still have a couple of questions.

first one - I need replacment glass for the drivers side mirror.
It is electric, has a heating element and a blind spot section on the edge.
Could anyone recommend a supplier that doesn't charge a fortune?

Second one - The front electric windows don't work, could anyone post a link or supply me with a colour wiring diagram so I could trouble shoot them?

Many thanks in advance,

FuzzyEdges.

Welcome to the FCF :)

Wow, 178.000 miles in 3 years?!?! Did you ever get out of it?

A would bet a motor factors would be able to source you a mirror glass quite cheaply.

The two front door windows not working sound like a common failure point;
he fact that both sides are innoperative would suggest that either the wiring in
the door jambs from the bodyshell pillars is fine or conversely totally goosed!!
First off I'd check fuse F27 under the dash and check there's power through
it with a multimeter.

The passenger window needs power from or through the drivers switch to work..

Has the HDi done big miles?? If not, it Could be a case of sticky window in the Seal. I had this on Xantia - had an SX with 3 working windows for nearly a year, when one day I hit the window switch and the window came down with a thud, it was stuck in the seal..

Big milage would point towards boken wires as Andrew says, between the drivers door and car..

Brilliant Paul - of course - there's a good chance the driver's window switch
on that door is knackered - I'd forgotten the s2's like doing thing a bit
differently to the s1's.

Sorry, bit misleading that statment, I bought the car with 100,000 on the clock and added another 78,000 in three years mostly commuting.

Thank-you for all the replies. It's nice to be involved in such an active forum, I hope I will be in a postion to help others with advice soon.
The car has done 95,000 miles and I've checked fuse 27.
Not having opening windows is a bit of pain when I have to swipe an ID card to obtain access to our company car park!
I'll get the mutimeter out and strart investigating before the snow returns.

Hi Fuzzy,

Here are the wiring diagrams for the front windows:

Circuit Diagram

Harnesses

Locations

The four figure component codes in the diagrams can be cross-referenced to the list in the back of the Xantia Haynes manual.

I trust these will help in your fault finding. The harness diagrams are especially useful as they tell you exactly which wires do what.
