Citroen S1 Hot and Cold Slider Switch Problem

Unread post by Rhothgar »

Hi

It's been a few years since I've been on this site. I used to use Citroenz but not sure what exactly happened to that.

I know AndersDK is now on here - BIG shout out to AndersDK in DK!

Forget my user ID so had to trawl through the whole list of Members until I found it!!!

I have a few problems with my S1 1.9TD SX Xantia at the moment so I've come here for all the greatt advice and camaraderie too.

On hot, it operates and slow bakes the occupants of the car. (Not quite true as it is only running at 60+ degrees until I change the thermostat in about an hour). So it will fry the occupants once it is done!

If I drop it down to say 26 then the temperature drops right off and then down to cold, it is COLD especially at the moment.

I've searched the forum at length. When I first use the search it can up with about 15000 replies so when I had read all them , I tried a different search of 9000+ and finally got it down to about 15 - 20.

I was looking into the cabin temperature sensor scenario as a friend of mine who is a Citroen nut said that they sometimes give problems.

It did buzz constantly at one point. Cured that with a good thump on the dash. It is intermittent.

I am going to blow that out today with compressed air or a straw is probably better.

Will this cure it or could it be something else?

I also have an intermittent problem with the central locking. I turn the key to lock and it locks then unlocks. I repeat. It repeats. I repeat, It repeats. I repeat and hold and it repeats. I repeat perhaps a few more times and it finally takes.

Is something perhaps sticking somewhere?

Your views and comments would be greatly appreciated.

I take it that your car has A/C? If so then yes I'd check the little fan motor and temperature sensor below the radio as a fault with that will give the symptoms you describe.

As for the central locking issue that more than likely down to a fault with the electric connector from the door loom to the lock motor, for some reason whenever I've had a car with that problem the fault has always been with the N/S/F lock. Remove the door card then separate the block connector from the motor, check the contacts and spray with contact cleaner and replace etc.

hi and welcome back

the cab temp might well be down to the sensor and giveing it good blow out is the first and easyest route to take,

im not sure what elss could cause this unless the dash control has a fault,

regarding the locking as Richard say's (beet me to  ) he's obviously a two finger typer,

but it could also be 1 or more broken wires between the door and body, or even a micro switch in one of the two front door lock mechnisum's/units,

as the central locking thinks there is a front door still open,

Richard has a lot more fingers than you so you are at a serious disadvantage there Malcolm.

Yes it as a 'Snowflake' switch which would indicate it has I believe.

That might explain why as some low-life tried to break into the car from the N/S/F with a screwdriver and broke the level off the barrel internally.

Who would break into a Xantia S1? An enthusiast looking for spares?

Well! Thermostat done. Got an 83 degree-r in there and left it idling for an hour and engine temperature has only gone up to 70 degrees. Is this normal or does that depend largely on the car?

The internal temperature has increased and the heat now bites after 5 - 10 seconds.

The fan speed slider works max on MAX but slide it to the left only 5mm. and the speed drops right off.

I am going to blow the sensor clean and see what that does but clearly it would seem that I have an issue with engine cooling also.

All comments appreciated.

Rog in my 95 TD my needle used to rise and settle at half way when warmed up. When the head gasket got done and everything was changed it now settles a little lower.....at around 70 too if i remember correctly. No problems with it though

Hi Vince

How long would you say your warm-up took to get to that stage?

I'm being particularly anal about this because I am not sure I have ever seen mine at half-way. (halfway is 80 on mine) which is 3 below design temp.

And as I was changing the thermostat at the weekend, I was admiring how close the top bolt is to the fuel filter leak-off and how flexible that is in warm weather and brittle it could be in cold weather - not a brilliant bit of design from such an innovative company!!

It left me wondering if I had ever changed the thermostat because of the proximity of this bolt but I just took my time as it could fully engage my spanner with the bolt.

But then when I think that I once got 870 miles to a tank, it leaves me thinking it must have been running right at some point. There's a topic for another post - mileage championships!! I am hoping to get over a 1000 on a tank (which technically is impossible) in a single journey which is another reason for wanting to get it running 100% sweet.

Is this that topic with photos that shows two shiny transitors from Farnells?
