I've looked into it a bit and it seems the bonnet is aluminium, 7kg lighter than a steel one.

Interesting link :)

The 12 year anti corrosion warranty sounds good and is probably the reason that the paint free area on one of my front wings has never rusted, despite my three year delay in attending to it.

Must remember to check my spare when I can find a magnet.

I believe the C5 bonnet is Aluminium, to help with the front-rear weight distribution...

Found the recall for the wheel problem on the C5 at VOSA

Interesting that they call the wheel a pressed alloy. I thought all alloys were cast and machined?

Ha-haa ! It looks like they’re making wheels on the cheap by compacting floor sweepings.
Don't think that cast alloy can be strong enough to make wheels.

I don't think you can work metal the same way as sausages or chipboard

You sort of can. It's powdered metal or "sintered". Lots of modern engines use powdered metal as an alternative to forging for internal components like conrods.

They now use sintered conrods?

I remember when I first came across sintered rocker arms on the BMC A-series engines, They had a strength slightly greater than shortbread biscuits.

About halfway down is some guff on the rods.

The whole motor is made to sound very high tech until you realise it's more of a well-shined grogan than (say) the ES9J4.

That is a very nice looking wheel, i have never seen that Citroen design before. Though i see what you mean, they look a right pain to clean.

I knew the C5s bonnet was aluminium, I am surprised though, i wouldnt have though 7kg would have made much difference to such a heavy car.

The 12 year anti perforation warranty is a good one, although how many C5s have made the regular trips back to the dealer to get the perforation warranty stamped up? Not many, without it dealers usually dont want to know.

Fortunately the C5s dont rust, ive seen one or two with rusty arches, though i suspect they had been replacements.
