Parklight Telltale - X2

Unread post by addo »

Do Series II Xantias have a light on the dash that illuminates when just parkers are on?

(If so, mine is blown...)

Thanks, Adam.

I think it's a big oversight of Citroen not to add a sidelight indicator on the dash. Thankfully, there is an audible warning when getting out of the car.

How many tell-tales do you want on the dash then Mike?

Next you'll be wanting a display to show what gear you're in

Hang on, my MK2 has one of those!!!

The handbook doesn't really make it clear, Malcolm. I generally rate it as one notch above Haynes, but that's about all.

Mine does have the gate positions and gear numbers on the shifter. :P

Even so, I do occasionally find myself thinking I'm in second when in fourth or trying to change up when in fifth.

I use the tacho for determining which gear I'm in. Works a treat.

OK, also not in the handbook... Two mystery plugs in the centre console harness, beside the height lever and ahead of the sunroof/window switches.

• A yellow nine pin plug with not all of the pins populated. Looks like the sort of plug that goes onto a push switch. Are there any alarm controls on the centre console?

• A brown or maroon six pin plug, again not all populated. Slightly similar to the plugs for power window and sunroof rocker switches.

Any ideas?

Not when the quadrant bulb has gone out in a MK1 V6 and in the dark you're trying to find Drive from Park  The MK2 instrument panel gear position repeater is a boon. It was not fitted to the MK1...

Trouble is Mike, you can't "feel" where the automatic selector is in the same way as a manual gearstick...

Adam, the yellow connector might well be for the passenger airbag disable switch as found in later MK2s with seat side airbags. In the MK1 this was the location for the hydractive switch before it migrated to the dash in the MK2.

I know the brown one you mean. I always assumed it was for the sunroof but if yours has one then I don't know off-hand. If you can let me know the wire numbers going to it I may be able to shed light...

On my previous Xantia the audible relay packed up and I consequently left the lights on and ran the battery flat miles from home. Shows how you can become reliant upon these things. I think the best device would be a timed relay that switches off the lights after a presetable period when the doors have been locked.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

OK Jim, the two mystery plugs are configured as follows:

Brown/maroon - 6 pin, three populated, numbers readable are 2248, 1896/4780 and 6506A/1037 (not sure which of the two is relevant in the paired numbers)

Yellow - 9 pin, four populated, numbers readable are 6546, 1895, 6548 and one illegible.

Forward of the airbag controller is a brown disconnect for the passenger airbag; I'd always assumed it to be where an inline switch was spliced in.

The sunroof switch plug looks like a power window plug but different colour - it's grouped with the two rear switches near the console ashtray. I don't have a sunroof on the break (shame) but clearly - like illuminated visor mirrrors - the harness is the same regardless...

Yes they do, or at least they did....

My first Xantia had a light on the dash which came on when the sidelights were on, this car had two separate switches built into the dash which controlled the fog lights which had lights in them.

Citroen moved the controls for the fog lights onto the left hand stalk and thats where they were on my second Xantia. This second Xantia didn't have the sidelight light on the dash anymore, the position was used by one of the foglight lights.
