In this weather, that's a compelling thought Simon :D

Xantiaman has cracked it though

Always pleased to hear of a good, recommended garage :D

So, engine out or just head off?

Engine out would mean re-taxing her.

Neither :D :D :D It's a bit of a tricky little devil but it can be done in-situ...

Basically, split the turbo from the manifold...

We all owe Greth a big tha nk you for this...

Mine!!! I must practice on the bench with my spare head, manifold and turbo...

When does Juliet's tax run out Xac?

Gareth, sorry for spelling your name wrongly earlier. I was typing on a laptop. I hate laptop keyboards...

She's currently SORN, so I'll re-tax her in Jan

Didnt even notice Jim, tend to scan read most of the time, looked fine to me at first!

Picked up the bits earlier. The original 12 spline nuts have been superceeded by copper 6 sided with a deeper shoulder. How this is going to work on the lower nuts next to the turbo i do not know, i only ordered a few anyway so may re-use the originals if im not happy with them.

Has anyone got any pictures they can post up so I can see for myself why this job is so difficult with the engine in and head on?

Sounds like a very stupid design. I thought it was bad enough on my Rover 45 having to remove the alternator to get at one of the exhaust manifold bolts!

I will do some pictures, but the main problem is that the engine is canted back at an angle, and unlike the 406, the Xantia does not have a servo so the engine is placed quite far back aswell, this causes access problems and whilst not impossible there are a few shortcuts you need to take. Removing an alternator is a walk in the park compared to this

And on an Activa, that is saying something Gareth

When I replaced an Activa alternator, I nearly gave up, scrapped the car and bought a Kia Picanto...
