I used a bit of brute force and ignorance to remove the heatshield, didnt really matter as the car was for parts.
As for removing the turbo, the t40? torx bolts that hold the supporting bracket to the block were solid, at that point i give up and started pulling the engine out.

Ah, i may use brute force then! I've got all the brackets off just fine, will find out later once i've got a 12 point deep 10mm socket to finish off.
