'90s Stereo Plug Interchanges

Post by addo »

Surely these plugs were not specific to Peugeot 405 and early BX models?

Any other marques identical? I'm trying to find an on-the-shelf ISO (to this) adaptor locally.

Thanks, Adam.

Adam,

Just had quick peek on the net and found this. http://www.icebuyer.co.uk/peugeot-605-2 ... 12218.html or one of the ebay ones
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peugeot-405-1987- ... 3a5ec2405b

Can't see any other makes listed.

Hello Simon, I too had seen the UK derived articles (seem to be "Connects2" brand). The Fleabay site you link to, is one of the cheaper for shipping.

It's just that I was hoping it might interchange with a better-known marque (in terms of the Australian car scene). It's amazing that things have taken so long to become even half-standardised!

Regards, Adam.

Most of the 80 and 90's cars (exceptions being Ford / GM, and even they were not quite 100% the same) had their own layout for wiring it seems.

ISO adaptors are readily available for most cars, so you can plug that in and the other end has a standard ISO connector,

Qorse case you can cut that plug off (on the adaptor!) and manually wire it, the old fashioned way.

Some will need (on the adaptor!) the red / yellow swapping as these control permanent / ignition feeds.
Andy.

Adaptor showed up today - thanks to Simon for the supplier hint. :D Fits fine; seems better quality than the Aldi stereo harness.

Most of the time, I like the glorious note of this car. The radio is just for longer trips or traffic reports in drivetime broadcasts.

The worst (funniest) part is the Aldi head unit pushing low grade Alfa speakers through 20 year old wiring, actually sounds distinctly better than the Sony in my Xantia.

oops

Although I guess its new, I thought about degradation of wiring but you say you're using the old wiring. I guess audio components do degrade with time..
