Man-Flu vs the Recalcitrant Car

Post by addo »

It's been a real run of downs and ups with the car lately. More of the former.

We had the doseur leak, destroying the firewall insulation. While recovering from this inconvenience, a strut leakoff return pipe failed - still waiting on a new rubber hose and strapping.

The heater matrix elbow broke irrepairably (having been fixed once before), calling for a new hose set. At the first install attempt I pinched an O-ring, causing it to lose all coolant. I can also smell the matrix leaking.

Yesterday, the starter finally died. This was made more fun by a Force Ten dose of the 'flu with hayfever thrown into the mix. Combined with the leaking strut return pipe and the flat battery from my starter arcing, I had a dead unlocked car dripping LHM outside my neighbour's house. Not good!

Today it was fix time; being so rogered from illness I took the whole day to rebuild the starter. Guess what? The motor will run (albeit flat stick) with the TB completely removed! Next it ran out of petrol whilst test idling.

Then it didn't restart! :x Somehow the inertia switch had been tripped. Finally, about 2030H tonight it was safely back in the driveway. Flu continues apace; what a pest it is.

Manflu is a medically recognised and serious illness, far worse than birdflu (or Sheilaflu as it's known down under).
Check http://www.manflu.org.uk for important advice and sympathy.

Bugger. I even failed their (Manflu website) questionnaire; it directed me to the NHS homepage.

Deano, this is how it's done; you link the fake URL:

I suspect we'll see him back with a sore elbow and a few raw bits, maybe in a week or two...
