Window winder broken on ZX

I tried to wind down the rear window on my ZX (5 door), and the window was stuck closed. So I used a bit more force and heard something break. The handle is now rotating, but the window remains closed. The problem is due to lack of use, I expect.

What is the most likely thing to have broken? Would it be a snapped cable, or a cog?

My MOT is due in a few days. Would this cause an MOT failure?

i cant think of hand if they are cable operated or the canterlever type,

and no it is not and MOT failure as door windows are not checked on the MOT,

all doors have to open from inside and out,

sounds like a case of break glass in emergency
