Fog lamps

Unread post by Stempy »

One of my front fog lamps is out. I checked the owners manual with regard to replacement and it says 'refer to your Citroen dealer'. Surely it cant be that difficult can it? Haven't had a chance to have a look yet but I'm hoping it's just a matter of crawling underneath the car and not a bumber removal or something as daft.

Sorry, you are correct, 1999 model. The old ones used to pop out the front but the new face lift ones are fitted from behind.

On the face-lifted Xantia, dealing with the fog lamps is a real pain. I´ve managed to replace a bulb in the o/s one but only with the loss of a lot of hand skin. If you remove the wheel arch liner and loosen off the washer tank, you´ll just about manage from the rear of the bumper. To remove the unit altogether, it will mean taking off the bumper.

I have replaced the whole unit on the nearside it's a squeeze, and needs the unit turning round a few times to make it through the angles, but can just be done without removing the bumper. I think the offside would be impossible.
The bulbs fit in a simple twist off holder, turn it 90 degrees and it pops out but if you stick your head under the front (you may need a torch) you'll see why Haynes refer you to the Citroen dealer.
