How to type Citroën
I've noticed that some forum members make the effort (but fail) to type Citroën correctly (with the double diaeresis over the 'e').
Special characters that aren't on the keyboard can be typed using the corresponding 'Alt code' - hold down the Alt key and type the corresponding 4-digit code on the numeric pad (with Num Lock ON). ë is Alt + 0235
Under Windows (XP and earlier), all the special characters for a particular font and the corresponding codes are shown on the Character Map feature (All Programs > System Tools).

Re: How to type Citroën
on a forum, life's too short, especially when one is using a phone to post a message. And I work for a publisher where I would ensure it was correct in a book, but not on the forum - on a mac it is simpler and double dots can be entered be pressing alt+U, followed by the vowel to have a double dot above it. like this 'Citroën'Old-Guy wrote:I've noticed that some forum members make the effort (but fail) to type Citroën correctly (with the double diaeresis over the 'e').

Anyway, nice to see another Gloucester member here.

Anyone really bothered can program a hotkey to do it
Include me out.
There is a similar sequence on mine to the Alt key - Uniscript 00EB. I used to have it off pat as I used it for the Swedish characters ÅåËäÖö and è in Mylène (which can be fudged with AltGr+e - é, looks good enough if you're not too critical)
For some reason the keyboard stopped responding to Unicode so I used the Character map, pasted the letters at the foot of the document and dragged them into the places needed.
Klunky - and how! Damned if I can remember the Unicodes when I want them though

I can be as pedantic about spelling as anyone but this is a step too far for a forum.
If everyone could just stamp on every spelling of Citroen that'd do me fine!

Saves my bacon all the time - I find that it is a rare thing if I have actually written what I thought I had and it's getting worse, not better with practice.

Boss jockey at the local tyre yard was running up an invoice recently, and paused. "Someone can't spell" he noted. Not diaresically perfect, but he immediately changed it from Citrone to Citroen in their customer database.
(I get those automatic SMS reminders to balance and rotate, usually 2 months after I've scrapped the tyres in question.)
