Can Lexia interface firmware be updated?

Hi,

Just reading a forum where someone mentioned updating the firmware on their clone Lexia interface. Is that possible and if so, how do you go about it? Mine reads the C3 fine, but is having trouble with in-laws HDi Picassos, one a 2001 and one a 2004. It's only finding some ECUs and instead of YES or NO under faults (when it does the list of ECUs querying each one at a time), it's putting a question mark and won't connect to injection ECU.

As an aside, the C3 HDi I cured by replacing one Delphi injector with high leak-off and repairing the turbo is once again back with the same faults of hard starting and white smoke, low power and rattling! Leak off is showing 3 duff injectors including the scrapyard replacement one, which when tested after fitting had the same leak-off as injector 1, the only very good injector then and now!

I've got pics of all 3 leak-off tests I've done over past 10 months which I may put on here for sake of interest. Couldn't make it up with this car!

Lexia shows cylinder 3 injector correction error or something (did it late last night) and periodic injector resetting fault. 3 was the worst for leak-off, but only very slightly more than 2 and 4. All three had over double the leak-off of injector 1.

Hi,

You can update the software via the internet - you are offered this option when you start up the lexia software.

I used this service very successfully for some time, however, beware as the latest updates for V45 seem to lock out your original authorisation code and prevent the disgnostic software from running. Also they prevent revalidation by use of new codes generated by the code generation software that comes with the clone lexias.

This happened to me and I ended up having to re-install XP as uninstalling and then re-installing the lexia software did not remove the problem. Authorisation code must be locked in the registry somewhere.

Clearly Citroen are deliberately blocking updates for clone lexias!!

I have seen CDs on offer on EBAY that claim to provide authorisation codes that do work with the latest updates. However, as the original V45 software does all that I need at present I have not tried them, just made sure I don't update any more.

I was more thinking about updating of the firmware of the diagnostic interface itself, rather than the computer-installed software which interfaces with the Lexia tool. Assuming the forum post I read wasn't confusing software and firmware (data stored inside a device on memory chips which control its basic functions).

Hi James, I have found it's sometimes physical connector problems; we tried several Xantias and some read better than others despite all basically being the same.

Like fred, I stuffed up Planet attempting to update. However, uninstalling it worked OK and I simply didn't try for an update when reloading.

Whenever you update the software either by disc or internet when you plug the interface in for the first time after that it also updates the firmware in the interface automatically.

Thanks Wheeler, I understand now and am ensuring I don't update the software for obvious reasons...

Addo, I'd read a similar thing. On one website, it was mentioned that the clone worked perfectly on all cars after an Actia interface to OBD cable was obtained and used on the clone device. Apparently it's trouble with full CAN cars. Might I be right in thinking then that the '03 C3 isn't full CAN, but the '01 and 04 Picassos are?

I'm trying again in a bit as I've found I was using the wrong RP codes and have since found the proper ones on door pillars. If that doesn't work, I'll try checking for anything obvious on the lead.

As for the C3, taking the 3 injectors out tomorrow and will send them to a Delphi specialist for complete overhaul. I won't be beaten!

Updated Lexia software to v46 and put correct RP codes in and the Lexia happily connected to the Picassos ECUs.

Only thing is, one question mark still showed under faults. When it interrogates each ECU in the car one by one shortly after car model and diagnosis selection, it has two columns showing next to the type of ECU. One is 'present' and the other is 'faults'. For the airbag ECU in the 2001 Picasso, it says YES under present, but has a question mark (?) under faults.

Anyone had this before and know what it means?

The xsara picasso was never full CAN & the C3 changed to full CAN from around 05, the ones with the slightly different front end.
