Strange you should mention that Jim.. my lads 2.1TD rolled of his drive night before last. He says that as soon as the car 'settles' the car rolls back. He now applies the handbrake firmly and parks in gear...CitroJim wrote:There must have been one for the handbrake?Xac wrote:I can only find one recall for Xantias, 95-96 petrol 1.8 16v cam belt failing before 72K

Thats a point about the handbrake...I always park in 1st/reverse depending on the hill and spin the front wheels against the curve just in case, paranoia I guess but I do notice when I've left it for a while on an incline when I come back I have a bit of a job getting it back into neutral as the car has moved slightly and 'settled' into gear.

I'm not saying their handbrakes are totally ineffectual but Cx ownership
trains you to gauge the topography where you park the car and to leave
it parked in either reverse or first gear...
this habit is hard to get out of and I park all my Xantiae and Xm the same.
Just don't forget the car's in gear when you jump in and turn the key. Even
with an auto I'll have my foot on the brake pedal and not all autos need this.
Sometimes even where coming back to a Xantia and dumping the clutch to
turn over the starter I can catch the car 'creep' even with the handbrake 'on'.
In ANY car I first get into and try the starter I'll always dump the clutch
even where I've already 'wobbled' the gearlever. My driving instructor would
sometimes deliberately leave the car parked in gear to catch me out on
starting up...
yes, she was a bit sadistic but it trained me to anticipate things even where
the car was stationery.

i must admit I always park and leave the car in gear. My dad got me into the habit of it (must be an old school thing).
It always catches the wife out if she uses my car as she never checks if it's in gear or not before starting.
They don't teach um how they used too.
