The CX manual stated on changing the trailing arm bearings "remove the arm and thoroughly clean the inside of the car" probably by this time you are needing some displacement activity, I pointed this out to the rep at the motor show and anyone who has a copy will probably find it now reads " thoroughly clean the inside of the tube".

Is that why the only one now flying required a multi-million £ restoration to get it air-worthy again?
Seriously, while Haynes manuals vary from indifferent to appalling, the pictures and diagrams can be useful in understanding expert advice.
2012 Subaru Forester - capable but no magic carpet
2011 Grand C4 Picasso VTR+ 1.6HDi - not missed!
1995 Xantia Estate SX 1.9TD in Vert Vega "The Green Lady" - sadly missed
1998 Xantia 2.1 VXD Estate in Mauritius Blue - R.I.P. (terminal tin-worm)
the only time ive wanted a haynes manual ive looked up the required section in the index, turned to the correct page and each time ive been greated by one of two sentances
1. To explain the operating principle of x is beyond the scope of this manual
(meaning) we didnt want to actualy put any usefull information in one book when we could spread it over 5 books and make more money.
2. part x has no servicable parts and the job should be entrusted to your main dealer.
(meaning) we are so scared of being sued by some idiot we cant make a proper manual anymore that shows the stuff you need like exploded diagrams of gearboxes, oil pumps and other things you would actualy need a manual for.
Haynes is just a joke these days, why cant they be like they used to????
Thing is Dean, apparently people in our new dumbed down society got so spooked
by the scary pictures and procedures not many bought the manuals so a deliberate
dumbing down was done to match. The Cx workshop manual is great and the Xm's
rubbish in comparison. The Bx book is around 2" thick too and again full of 'hardcore' information!
I've got one for the 405. It includes some inaccuracies like cam cap torquing!
Occasionally, I squint at the grainy pictures to see if it's possible to discern an item in the background which I'm actually looking for information about. Mostly it's just a security blanket...
Andrew is spot on - Haynes don't call their publications Workshop Manuals anymore, they're called (IIRC) Service and Maintenance Manuals now. Much less effort to produce and they meet the needs of most of the shrinking number of car owners who do actually do something to their cars other than drive it and wash it occasionally.
One Saturday morning a couple of years ago, in a local car park, pointing to the N/S/R tyre of her car I said to a young woman, "Did you know you got an almost flat tyre?" Without looking at it, she replied, "Yeah, it's going in to the garage on Tuesday." got in and drove off! Too stupid to understand the danger or the unnecessary expense.
