ZX drive shaft clunk ?

Any ideas for this.
This morning at 0500Am driving to work when came to a hill with a set of traffic lights on it. Stopped at the red light , turned to green pulled away. Now for the first few yards there was a definate clonking sound fron the front off side of my old ZX TD. Got to work and phoned my local Cit specialist who said "bring it over we'll have a look,". Now he took it for a test drive and got it up on the ramps and guess what, that's right nothing, nada, nouwt, zero. He said all the bits for the front drive and suspension were in good order with no excessive (spelling)play in the drive shaft. On my journey back home to night all was quite untill I came to the same hill but going down I stopped at the lights and on pulling away the clunk came back only for a few yards. Now I've tracked down a good drive shaft price from a local motor factor but just wondering is it worth it as the ZX TD may be changing for a ZX volcane any time soon. Or am I on the wrong track?[?][?]

I think you should avoid that hill - and save your money [;)]

Could also be the front brake pads teasing you - with the famous clunk on brake release and engine pulling up.

try the top engine mount. When you take away on a hill the engine will tilt back towards the bulkhead and maybe enough for something to touch.

Had a look to day under the ZX. nothing no play in any of the ball joints, drop links or drive shafts (just a little) all engine mounts ok. These were replaced only a couple of months ago. Have now decided not to worry about it as every thing seems OK. Just in case though what size is the nut on the end of the drive shaft (wheel end)?

The nut is 36mm

A three quarter drive breaker bar is a good idea too, I keep snapping half inch ones.

So if I can be bothered then it's a 35mm not 36mm. Got all the orther kit including a 36 inch socket wrench with 3 quater drive.
