Non hydractive front corner spheres on an Activa

Unread post by Dommo »

Hi folks

I ordered a full set of spheres (or at least the one's I'd not already replaced) from Pleiades, and they have given me normal non hydractive front corner spheres, I could tell because the damper hole is quite a lot larger than the spheres that came off the car.

So it feels as though it's wallowing over bumps, and the front end seems to react to bumps after they've happened. Is this what a 'proper' (non hydractive/activa) citroen feels like? Or is it just this one because of the wrong sphere type for the car?

Thanks.

Ps - they said I could use them for a week or so to see what I think, and send them back for proper hydractive spheres if I'm not impressed. And I'm also missing a pipe seal for the front activa accumulator :( . A trip to GSF it is then.

No, it's just because it's the wrong spheres Dom.

Using non-hydractives on a hydractive car makes for a sublimely comfy ride but the payback is in the floppy damping. Some like it although I must cobfess I prefer tight damping.

A non-hydractive Xantia rides rather nicely on the right spheres and is in no way under-damped. About the only difference is more roll as hard mode cannot be summoned.

Some fit non-hydractive spheres to a hydractive car to cover up electrovale and ECU problems. However, the ride is not right and is not as soft and as controlled as a non-hydractive car despite using the same spheres.

I find the Activa is particularly critical on spheres and pressures are important. Both mine ride and feel beautiful and not much harder than a normal hydractive car. They have a LOT less roll though!
