Its it a Petrol or DERV?

A Derv is quite easy asits on the front of the engine, as for TU 1400's its on the rear of the block below the inlet.. only 3 bolts though hold them on..

If its a DERV with no cat then you could tow start it.. I doubt you'd bump it due to higher compression.. however, a Petrol, people dont reccomend it for the sake of the Cat.. But Ive never experianced it..

It would (probably) be ok as a bump start in a petrol cat engine as a one-off, although there is a risk of damage to the cat with unburnt fuel, although as far as I know it would be no more of a risk than someone driving with a misfire (dead plug or damaged coil pack) for a few miles.

But as above, there's a risk. You could chance it I've never actually known one to fail, but there's a first time...

What's actually wrong with it ? , I assume you have tried gently persuading it with a block of wood ?

Is the starter actually dead or could it be the solonoid? Try shorting the two large terminals on the starter solonoid together with a large and preferably disposable screwdriver. Otherwise it certainly won't do any harm to tow it, diesel cats dont suffer like petrol ones.

Just a quick note: If you are going to do the 'large screwdriver' trick

DOUBLE CHECK it is not in gear :!: , its not funny being ran over by your own car.
