Ah yes, but where is the button for soft mode David?

I occasionally drive a pair of lowered VWs which have quite a bit of power and up graded arbs etc - no where near a R32 though. They are fantastic around bendy bits and really good fun but when your not in the mood for trying to tear the tyres from the rims they can get really annoying - just too bumpy and jittery for my liking.

I think the Xm is a much nicer compromise

Fast cars are one thing but i can only imagine (cos i couldnt afford to run one) what a serene Xantia is like with a smooth torquey V6 to pull it along....heavenly i bet. Ive always fancied a V6 Xantia

And damn good MPG too from whats been said on here....my TD only does 40mpg

to get good fuel economy you need to be doing 50-60mph or 1500-2000rpm ish. Usually on the motorway in the UK its more like 30mpg. I think diesels still get good fuel economy over 70mph is the big difference

slightly off topic, but there's a useful mod for V6 Xanti and 406 drivers that a guy on another forum invented ..

the Tatswitch'tm' .. I will do it soon.. it's merely a DJ effects pedal or similar (push to make, push to break) which can be wired into the sports mode button, and then placed on the foot rest..

I NEED to get me one of these!

The Mrs goes nuts when I use the sports button as she knows I'm about to give it the beans. If I'd got one of these she'd never know when I'd pressed it!!

She wouldn't notice the light on the button nut my hand going down to press it gives the game away!

I always think manufacturers should use a switchable remap so you can flick a switch for more power.

Interesting mod!

Our Xm has a switch which locks it into sports mode, suppose S1 style? It just cuts power to the ECU.

So with the normal S2 XM switch it does Hydractive two, and with the additional switch its always in sports.

No idea why it has it, i think it was something to do with the alarm but managed to get the suspension cought up in the wiring somehow. As the alarm isnt on when the switch is down.

On my Series 2 V6 XM I have a manual slider for the Normal and Sports suspension, I also have 2 square buttons just in front of it. One of them is snow and one is sport mode.

There's a panel on the dash which tells you what position the gear lever is in, beside this is either says ECO which is normal, SPORT or SNOW.

If you switch my Series 1 XM into Sport suspension, you can feel it get noticably firmer, the bumps become much more apparent. With the Series 2 it doesn't change much, it just alters the parameters at which the car switches to sport.

Yep, but for some reason a previous owner has added another switch which cuts power to the suspension ECU, keeping the car in sports mode as power is not getting to the diodes.

The slider switch next to the gearlever works as normal S2, cutting in as and when required, with the switch speeding up the reaction time of the ECU.

So with the standard switch it does S2 Hydractive2, but with the additional switch which has been added at some point, its always in sports mode - like S1 hydractive 1 - noticably firmer all of the time.

Best of both worlds maybe!

Its a manual so doesnt have any sports/snow mode on the box.

ahh yes.. i forgot the Xant has sports suspension and sports gearbox

should be able to wire a pedal into both..

funny David re : wife.. I almost want a light on when in sports mode so passengers know what's coming up

Well im pretty pleased with it!

Especially as when i went to collect the car it felt as though the spheres were about shot. The seller explained that the switch was for the alarm to disable the sensors (why i dont know as it has a button on the dash for that) so i didnt think anything more about it.

I had a very good drive home in it through twisty roads but it was very firm on bumps.

The next day i flicked the switch while it was parked and the car sank down slightly, as it settled onto the rest of its spheres. I then took it for a drive and its like a totally different car. Ive checked the sphere pressures and all are fine.

With this extra switch flicked the normal slider switch has no input, no sports light or sports suspension warning on the dash. The the extra switch off its all as it should be, sport light and warning message working.

I quite like it, very handy if your wanting a little bit of driving fun!

Its also handy when fiddling on with the car, say hoovering it etc, as the ECU isnt buzzing away for the few minutes until it stops. Should be a standard fit in my opinion

I did that with a caravan floor button and a steering wheel mount when I first got mine but actually the box takes off quite well in normal mode though it locks up quicker in sport and snow mode. Really not a compensation for having 4 gears though
