Is dash lighting on speedo an MOT requirement!?

Post by andmcit »

Anyone know conclusively - I've not dropped anything out from Googling
and I've totally forgotten about the almost fully out instruments on an Xm
I'm about to take for a test tomorrow until I drove it in the dusk tonight!?

Hey, at least I still see what fuel and water temperature levels are and really
they're the most critical instruments to watch...  The rev counter
is just a faff really, I'm not driving for optimum acceleration engine
performance and my ears work better!!

AFAIK Andrew the speedo must be lit/able to be seen whilst driving at night, although its not an item that is tested in the MOT to be actually working,it just has to be present, depending on age of vehicle. The degree of illumination is down to the examiner as the test is usually carried out in a premises that has lots of artificial lighting.Knowing your penchant for sunroof equiped cars if the blind is retracted i reckon you have a more than 80% chance of passing this particular requirement

Good call Colin!! Yep, sunroof blind is open though the MOT place I
use is a tad dingy on light...

I wondered about the old "if it's fitted it has to be working" chestnut!
Guess I could say I prefer the rheostat turned right down as my
eyes are very sensitive!

It's one of those jobs I've put off for ages and had conveniently forgotten
as I've been completely focussed on the rebuild of the the Xm's smashed
suspension I inflicted on the car pirouetting it off a slightly wet roundabout
in the small hours of the morning where I was tramping home...

I did kinda have the boot full of heavy tools, jack etc etc - oh, and a Honda
V4 motorcycle engine.
